People buy less than 50 tins at a time? :puffy: That's absurd.
Yeah, I don't get it either. What's the point. To buy less would be like ordering the 2 oz ribeye at Mortons.
But seriously, I haven't been buying much in the last year or so, so don't blame me for any shortages. My buying panic was a couple of years ago. I suffer from premature paniculation.

In line with this topic, I have a general question about cellaring latakia blends. I know latakia is not said to improve with age. Does anyone have any idea how long I can expect to store a mild English bulk blend in mason jars without losing quality? I've looked around but have not found a sufficient answer, only that latakia loses flavor and latakia blends generally do not improve with age.

Lawdawg, many of us cellar huge amounts of latakia blends. That it goes bad or does not age well is a myth or bent reality of where it was reported that latakias did not age as well as Virginias. But, tobacconists like GLP have made a career out of aging latakia. And, the blends that reap the greatest prices with age on them are all latakia blends. "Aging well" is a quality in which only we can each define for ourselves. Personally, I love Greg Pease's latakia work with age on it. As far as how long, and which ones, too many variables.

Lawdawg, latakia does become more muted with age. Some love that (and, indeed, pay big bucks for aged tins because of that) but others don't.
If you like your Latakia more pronounced you could try vacuum sealing blends. I have never tried it, but I know some folks do do that. The theory is the removal of most of the oxygen will slow down the aging process, though obviously not halt it completely.

Peck, I can't see why you are not panicked. When we don't find any pipe tobacco to smoke, guess where we will be attacking. Do you remember Koreans that were talking about your cellar? I am a member of that gang.

Thanks for the info on latakia storage and aging. I was a bit disappointed when I read about it not aging well. I don't care for lat bombs, and I like my latakia smooth and mild, so I'll feel free to stock up.

Yep, by the time it takes me to smoke my cellar, I'll be dead or in a home.

One of the advantages to being a codger, as they call us. Let the kids fend for themselves.
