Mega Plus 1 on all of the above Ejames! I am so sorry to hear. That whole breathing-thing is SUCH an -ITCH, so to speak. I've got some breathing issues of my own so I greatly sympathize. I started by saying "I haven't smoked" for real for about a month now... but saying "smoked" doesn't say anything close to the reality... I haven't had serious Pipe Time is what it is. It is for me a sort of intimacy of a very thoughtful, contemplative, healing, and wonderful interlude from all the terrors of the world and all the ills that abound. So last night I smoked a fine pipe with an equally fine tobacco and had the two hour sacrament of it all. My lungs said, "You A**HOLE!!!". My brain answered, "Oh go piss off." Then my lungs reminded my brain that they can cut off his own oxygen supply most expeditiously. So back to square one. I think it was in that old mid-60's Weber pipe book where there was some remark to the effect that "I would do anything for my beloved pipes and tobacco, except die." Hmmmmph. I suppose so.
Anyways, thank you so very much for sharing all your wisdom, information, good-soul, and happy experience with us all for so long! Even though we've never personally met, I have greatly enjoyed and appreciated you participation. All the most Best Wishes to you now as you close one chapter and maybe open a fine new one of some kind!

Jerry

Oh Ed, it makes me sad to read this.
I do hope that your health improves, and that you take as much joy out of whatever comes next in terms of hobbies as you did/do your pipe work.
Thanks for the many conversations about restoration and refurb work, you were one of the first folks to support me as I got started and have always been kind with encouragement and generous with your knowledge.
Don't be a stranger, Ed.

ejames, good for you for not being stubborn and putting your health first. I know that is a hard decision. I wish you could hang around on Forums, and add your knowledge and opinion to the flow, but I understand that would be a temptation. I hope you get a good return on your pipes and tobacco and can put that toward a new activity that pleases you. I hope removing smoking from your life rewards you with a definite boost in health. scrooge brought your post to my attention, and I am grateful he did; he's looking out for you. If you drop back in to say howdy at any time, that would be great. Good health to you from now on. mso489

Scrooge is good people ! He and I have been in contact not only here but elsewhere and he has been very supportive !

Over the last 10 years of being on the various forums I have "met" a good many like James. I do believe,as has been stated before, that pipers are generally a cut above.

Ed-
I hope you'll continue to post from time to time- it's a community and we don't care how much or little—or none— folks smoke. And I hope your health matter turns in the right direction soon!
All best wishes,
John

Excellent idea! The world needs more attractive pens with good shapes for duration writing.
A friend urged me a year or so back to make pens and even sent me a couple of kits. I made one, which turned out fairly well. I have bought a few of the tools used for pen making but really need a wood lathe. Turning pens on a small metal lathe is a PITA !

Yes, you do.
Pens are amazing because of the creativity involved.
I hope you make fountain pens too... I realize they are not universally popular, but I credit them with rehabilitating my handwriting after years of typing like a good nerd.
Will you post some pictures of your works?

Ed,
I'm truly sorry to hear that you're going through this. You've always been a serious asset here. You're doing the smart thing in taking care of yourself. Don't be a stranger. Your knowledge is still valuable to many people here.
