Or, maybe people who are jerks are just actually people dealing with their emotions in their own unique ways, and people who label them as jerks are actually making them angry, and these people express that anger, which is a valid emotion... Maybe the problem isn't the jerks who are dealing with emotions in their own natural way, but everyone else who has a problem with the jerks... my head hurts now.
"Stop being angry, and come over here and feel something else." Phhht... this is probably why old men think a lot about punching people in the face.
Wow, this thread just went 180. Excuse me while I look for the key to my cry room. I just feel a little anxious.
Seriously, I agree it’s good to ignore bad behavior and dial down the rhetoric.
That’s not as Rocky Balboa as it might sound, as in , “If you you want to make big changes, you have to change in a big way.” Simply stated, but simply true.If you think about violence a lot you might get violent with someone.

You may be thinking of Rocky and Bullwinkle? Is he a fictional character?
I hear what you are saying and I am positive that I agree with with what you are getting at. But maybe you might what to dice out the difference between “jerk” and total butthole. I think what you call a jerk is now commonly referred to as….. wait, it’s coming….. (this is for you good ole boys down south)…. WHITE FRAGILITY. Now I better run along and hide. ?
I think that what is happening is that people have this notion that being angry or a jerk is bad. And, they feel more empathy for those who feel different emotions, which invalidates those who are already angry. Why do I have to feel sad or depressed? Why does the world want us to be different? We didn't beat Hitler, or put a man on the moon, or forge a nation on crying and wringing our hands... we have done amazing things with an asshole yelling at us while we forged ahead in anger.
Sure sure, people all crying and wringing their hands are valid also.
I have just as much love and respect for my grandfather, who in his last day was frustrating us with his insolence and anger as the women folk who just couldn't understand him in his last days. It's all valid. If we are going to accept one thing, lets accept it all.
A jerk is in the eye of the beholder. One man's jerk is another man's hero, savior, or redeemer. It's all in where you stand.I hear what you are saying and I am positive that I agree with with what you are getting at. And then think better of it, lest they spill their geritol and be made a fool. So they sit angrily in the corner mumbling.Or, maybe people who are jerks are just actually people dealing with their emotions in their own unique ways, and people who label them as jerks are actually making them angry, and these people express that anger, which is a valid emotion... So touching to see you get in touch with yourself and express your tender side and heart felt feelings. I am crying.I'm actually not a very angry guy. You can ask my wife and kids. I've never gotten angry with ANY of them... well, when my oldest stole my truck and flipped it while joy riding down some rail road tracks, I did lose my cool. But, that's once. Ha ha, and I think justified.
I am a laugher. I laugh at the world, because it's ridiculous, and the more people try to instill some sense of personal reign, philosophy, or control on the world the more ridiculous it gets to me. My wife and I work very well together because of her passion for doing stand up and making speeches with the Toastmasters. It gives us a shared hobby, where we can vent ourselves and make people laugh.
But, I used to look in on an older fellow, I've written posts about his love for that crappy Prince Albert, of which I have no idea where he was buying it, because I had never known him to ever leave his front porch. But, he was a very angry old man, Hank Henry. He was much beloved, but he spouted angry truths all day from his porch at passers by. I'm not sure if he was actually angry, or if that just gave him a validation, like yelling "LOOK AT ME, I'M STILL ALIVE!!! F You!!!"
He was great, and there was nothing about me (or anyone) that he couldn't cut the shreds in a heartbeat. His old lady neighbors though... they hated him. Ha ha, and that was funny too.
Good can come in all forms. Bad can too. But, you can't control it. Just let go and enjoy the ride. And, by enjoy it, I mean cry, rage, or laugh... just let it flow. Who cares. In 100 years from now, no one will give a shit about what any of us have done or said. Just be ourselves.
