Summer is my least favorite season, by far. July and August are and always have been just a couple of months to get through, a task made all the more difficult by my favorite season, autumn, being so tantalizingly close, yet taking seemingly forever to actually arrive. But when it finally does, what a relief! Also, there's my natural shift from VAs and light aromatics to VaBurs, burleys, heavier aromatics, and light English blends. It'd be foolish for me to forget to include that part.

Got a late summer trip planned through CO, NM and AZ. Although this trip is business not pleasure, I should be able to extract some modicum of enjoyment from it. That said, I'll be relieved to be back home for the change of seasons.

Scheisse. I struggle with any temperature over 25C (77F). It's hot over here, not as much as southern Europe, for sure, but extremely humid. I have trouble breathing and sleeping for two weeks now. Literally I'm uncomfortable ALL THE TIME. Last summer was just the same.

Longing for winter.
Any chance a medicine man could prescribe something to help you breathe better and sleep well?

1689823295217.jpegReady for the beach next week! Pacific Beach for a week! Been going with my wife’s family since I was 21 years old (1991). My kids grew up doing it with our close friends going too. My family is from CA, so my parents, sister, nephews all come down too. It’s my favorite week. Except feeling like a criminal hiding to smoke a pipe or cigar, while people smoke weed literally everywhere!

Had a great bike trip to San Luis Obispo in June. Excellent riding, great food and drinks. But, climbing hills, ain’t what I used to be. But, still managed an 89 mile day with 4,500 ft. of climbing At 220 lbs. I almost forgot had a great cigar in the downtown SLO cigar shop with some friendly local dudes.

I had this come to my phone today, a 51/52 yr old man dressed like Darth Vader jogged 1 mile through Death Valley as a personal challenge. The temperature was 130 F😜Screenshot_20230719-110350.png

Spain - Europe
An atypical summer. We have not been able to go on vacation to the north of Spain - Galicia. My wife will be operated at the end of September. Here in the southeastern part of Spain, temperatures range from 86º to 95º, and the humidity makes it feel hotter. But it is what happens every year, it is nothing new or apocalyptic. Looking forward to autumn. I do have the hope of moving to the north of Spain, Vigo, one day. I have lost the illusion, the motivation to live in my current city.

The Summer has been great so far. Being a teacher in Scotland I get a long summer holiday. Weather was better in May, but there have been decent warmish spells where I have been trying to take opportunities to make the most of it. Took my lad for a cracking scramble and walk in the North of England today after a cracking day in Manchester yesterday watching cricket. England v Australia in the Ashes Test

Intense rainy stretch in our sometimes drought prone piedmont N.C. Then we are visited by intermittent smoke and particulates from the Canadian forest fires that make us monitor air quality along with temperature and humidity.

Our two cats keep us busy. One needs an appetite stimulant, so we pretty much feed him on demand, but he's getting meat on his bones. Unfortunately, his brother is portly, but we have to feed him too, or he feels rejected. They're such emotional creatures.

My wife's made some great summer salads to avoid using the stove. I've rediscovered the traditional pairing of beer -- a lager or Corona -- and pretzels. Snyder's are the best; others don't have enough salt.

In June, I finished a larger project and received a nice bonus for my efforts. I was gearing up for another large project (certification) which would result in other rewards if successful.

However, we received life changing news on Father's Day (and not for the better). So the next project is temporarily on the back burner while we improvise, adapt, and overcome.

We did a Black Hills, South Dakota vacation earlier this summer. Mt. Rushmore, Devil’s Tower, etc.
Going up to Wyoming this weekend to do some camping/fishing/hiking in the Big Horn mountains. Then that’s probably about it. School will be starting soon. Poof! Summer’s over.
Don't forget to hit the Hitching Post Gallery for some good tobacco, cigars and pipe stuff while you're there. Enjoy!

Taking care of my folks has taken much of my summer. At least we have a place for my kitty so at least I can escape with him for a bit. He's decided he likes the ceiling fan and will show his displeasure if it isn't going. Otherwise, it's been warm but nothing we can't handle.
