Originally Half and Half was flavored with Tonka Beans. My understanding is that the Tonka Bean is from a tree in the Amazon. It was banned in the U.S. because if you digest more than 300,000 lbs a day it could cause health problems (Ha Ha). The Tonka Bean supposed to have given Half and Half an exceptionally good taste. Has anyone had the opportunity to try any Vintage Half and Half with the Tonka Bean favoring?

I love tonquin flavoring, and plan to buy some Tonka beans and make my own Tonka flavoring to add to blends in the future.

I have a tin of Gentlemen Caller that I've sat on for a couple years that I'll get too one of these days. Never tried deertongue though.

But to get back to the thread: Half and Half never contained Tonka Beans, but did contain Deertongue. Both contain the substance Coumarin, which is where I'm sure the confusion came from.

I like fresh Half and Half, because I like the topping to be strong as possible. I mix it with stronger blends (C&D Burley Flake#1, Five bros, cut cigar leaf from cuban cigar nubs).

Thinking about making a plug of fresh Half and Half and cigar leaf actually. Wonder if the flavoring will last longer in plug form...

I’ve noticed a big change in that blend when it ages a couple of years. It wanes in the herbal notes, and becomes more intense in the honey notes. Yours will probably be deep into the honey end of the spectrum. It’s great either way.

I mix Half & Half with Crooner sometimes, which is a pretty good mix.
And I bet the topping would stick around more if pressed. I’m not sure if it has enough moisture to make a good cake, but it can’t hurt to try. If you added water and very briefly steamed the tobacco in the microwave before pressing, you’d have a nice dense cake, but you’d probably lose some of the topping in the “ooze” that comes out.
