Welcome from NOVA! Right down the road from you. I'm also a huge doom fan and I also play guitar. What rig are you running?

Your post reminded me of this song by Mike Scheidt from YOB.

Hey nice! I really love this track: I'm not a huge YOB fan, but I really like this version of this song. I'll take that as a high compliment! Mike is a very unique songwriter and player for sure. The guitar I'm playing in that video is an Alvarez baritone. I have my eye on a Taylor baritone one day when I have more money haha. I also have a Takamine 12 string I've tuned to C Standard and do a good number of tunes on my channel with that. I don't know if you're familiar with Warning, but I recently put up a video where I play Footprints on that 12 string. I'm a big Patrick Walker fan. I typically run those guitars straight into the system when I'm playing somewhere because the preamps do a lot of the work. But I only play at little open mics in the area like that. On the electric side of things, I have an Ibanez 7 RG string tuned to Drop A. I was lucky: I bought it from a touring musician here in the DC area, and he put some great Dimarzio pickups in it and coil tapped it. I know some people denounce them, but I have a Boss Katana Head I'll run into a few different cabinets. I love that I can easily switch between so many sounds with the tap of my foot. It doesn't sound so great through a Marshall cab (too trebly), but it sounds great through a Mesa Boogie or an Ampeg. I like when people ask me what it is, and they're surprised it's a Katana haha. I have a doom metal project that's kind of in hiatus because our singer left. It is a melodic doom project that I hope doesn't mirror old Katatonia too much. I feel that's a trap a lot of melodic doom bands fall into. We were getting ready to start performing live when he left... We have demo recordings we did with him. We're regrouping now. We don't have a singer so it may just be a studio project for now. We'll see.

Classic metal fan but discovering more new stuff as we speak. Welcome to the group!
Nice! I love lots of classic metal for sure. Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, Iron Maiden, Venom, etc. etc. I'm originally from Colorado and miss it dearly. I lived in Colorado Springs until I was 22 and went off for graduate school in Atlanta, then eventually wound up in DC. I hope to come back someday when my daughter is grown. My favorite place in the world is near Cimarron. My family used to own a cabin in that area. My whole family lives in Colorado but me. I recently took my SO Katie to Colorado and took her to all kinds of great places: Victor, Leadville, Breckenridge, Salida, etc. Stag tobacconist in Colorado Springs is one of my fav tobacconists!

When I'm in the right mood, I'll dip into a bit of Nightwish, but it has to be the right mood haha. I hadn't heard The Birthday Massacre, but that's pretty good! I'm a big fan of goth/darkwave stuff like Fields of the Nephilim, She Past Away, The Frozen Autumn, etc. I haven't tried Dreams of Kadath, but maybe I'll take the plunge! I just dipped into some Abingdon from Pease tonight. Great stuff! I also got my hands on a half pound of Grasmere Flake, and it's divine. I love Lakeland blends. I also have been delving deep into the C and D burleys again and find myself smoking lots of the classics (the burley flakes, HB, OJK, Kelly's Coin, etc.)
Welcome from the general vicinity of Ellicott City, from a weird whose most frequent pipe-music tunes consist of the Savoy Operas and Stan Rogers.

When I indulge in metal I lean toward Nightwish, and older groups (Sabbath, etc etc). Though I did treat myself to the discography of Birthday Massacre for my birthday last year, which I'd describe best as "Underwater Canadian Goth Music" (I don't know how they do it, but most of their stuff has a subaquatic/dreamlike quality to it).

With your metally, folksy, dark baccy attitude, might I recommend you the blend "Dreams of Kadath"?
