Hennan? The stem has his look, but so many people doing bamboo, that they all start to look alike. It could be Schwarz... hmmmm
I find this latest pipe interesting in that it's a good looking, well made pipe, lots of little things done well, and yet utterly unrecognizeable from a stylistic point of view because it is just that - a good looking pipe made with lots of little things done right, in a very Danish-school way, but not by a Dane, and without other calling-card type work, it's impossible to narrow down, there's nothing, even knowing it's German, that would let me identify the carver. Not denigrating the pipe at all, but it's just a really concrete example of a pipemaking "school" rather than an individual style.
Yeh, I was just throwing out names of German makers. It is a very very nice pipe, but impossible to use any style or... even the stem, I was just bring up bamboos made by Germans, but they all seem to use the same shape.

I guess his name is the one that comes to my mind (which does it's own thing regardless of what I tell it to do) when thinking German pipes although Jopp was a good guess.
Hopefully this hint will help: he's a stonemason and sculptor by profession. This certainly shows itself in his work.
I got lucky, price-wise, when I stumbled across this estate pipe. His pipes aren't a pricey as some of the big Danish names but they're out of my range even when I find estates, the above being an exception.

I think that I enjoy the ones that have to use clues as much as the ones I can guess by looking at the style.
Even posting hints has helped me learn more as I have to do some searching to find the hints. I didn't know his profession until now.
I read on Al Pascia's website Mr. Axmacher is considering making knives which has my interest. A custom knife by him would be something else.
I should have prefaced this one with... I have edited the stem logo in photochop, and the band is a repair. All else is as it was.
I had to look up that maker. No, but I learned something.
