Grousemoor Experiment

I bought a tin a year ago and haven’t yet tried it, despite eyeing it many times. I’ll have to mud the bottom of that new cob and dedicate it to Lakelands, and get to it. I hope I have your experience.

Lemongrass... just doesn't work for me. I tried some in a box pass years ago. Now, when I read the label, I just see Grossmore.

Where you getting the plug?

I get all my GH blends from GQ tobaccos because i live in England. They allow you to buy a minimum of 10g even on plugs. We are spoilt ,I have tried nearly every GH blend apart from Grousemore. Same with Germains they come in 500gr bags to GQ, and then they are sold on in small quantities.

True that! The sting of not being able to get 50%+ of the tobacco mentioned here is somewhat lessened by being able to chuck some random flavour pigtail of GH glory in the trolly on a whim!

I found it to have more topping from what I could tell? It’s also a nice dark plug more akin to FVF than the golden ribbon

In fact those reviews where folks claim they get no flavor, I felt this way with FVF in a 250g box. However, after a few years of age, it improved. But the tin has always been darker and deeper in flavor and in presentation.

Lakeland variation. The tolerance spread is pretty wide. I used to try to not buy too much at once, because who knows what you'll get. If you'll read British industrial history and the development of capitalist organization, you find that chronic absenteeism on Mondays and Tuesdays was common. I'd have to assume on the job performance was on the same level. Maybe things haven't changes that much in the countryside.

Also it used to never sell out so it seemed like you always got tins that were a year old. Now it’s all fresh and gets bought right away.

Samuel Gawith’s Grousemoor is one of three SG tobaccos left on Smoking pipes.com. I grabbed some in a what the hell moment. Perhaps you guys were sleeping on this one and I would strike gold. Damn if was I right. You guys were sleeping and I can’t order enough of this stuff.

Bright Virginias and a topping of lemongrass, almond, rum, and tons of other flavors that weave in and out, “oh god” I have a hard time keeping up with them. Smoking it straight from the tin or allowing a dry time of different degrees! The flavor changes accordingly and I can’t decide which moisture level is the best because they all offer something different.

Grousemoor will be gone shortly. I won’t have a life time supply because I love variety. With the tin art alone giving one enough reason to acquire this lovely tobacco, I hope you that choose to initiate yourselves in to the club; enjoy!

The recipe for Grousemoor must have changed over the years.
My first tin of Grousemoor the topping was more overpowering than Ennerdale.
Once you let it air out just a bit, Grousemoor is more like a sweet tea, where smoking Ennerdale reminds me of chewing on gummy bears.

I can imagine Grousemoor would benefit a lot from ageing, it's just missing a bit of the sweet component that you would get with aged Virginia.

It's so wild how tastes differ. I think BROBS gave me some of his less scented batch, but I get hit with a glorious burst of lemon cookies, baby powder, and sugar cane. I'm not sure how much age is on this sample, but I get a bright citrusy sweetness that makes this seem like possibly the sweetest SG blend I've ever tasted, at least on par with Firedance Flake. Only thing about it is the weather has to be just right for me to smoke it... Early spring or a cooler than average early morning in summer. I absolutely can't smoke the stuff in deep summer heat and in fall or winter it just confuses my senses and seems wrong. It's just so incredibly like springtime in a pipe that any other setting doesn't work.
The plug really is better. but it's so much different that I could see wanting to keep both on hand. It's deeper with some dried fruit coming through, but mellower on the bright flavors and tongue tickle. I could see how one might pick up stronger topping and someone else feel there is less, but that's probably just because the tobacco tastes so much different after being steam pressed dark.

So True, I have found no difference between bulk and tins.Once its jarred it turns dark brown then black in short order.

I bought a tin once that completely lacked the sauce flavorings I expected. Tasted like a straight VA. Disappointed indeed. Your tin sounds like one of the good ones.

I once had the same experience with a tin of Dark Flake Scented. No sauce at all. The plain Dark Flake is pretty darn good in its own right so no big let down.

Samuel Gawith and Gawith&Hoggarth make the finest pipe tobacco IMHO :D except firedance , this stuff is vile ?
