Greetings!

Figured it was time for me to cease lurking and come out into the light.

I’m not new to pipe smoking per se, have had pipes off and on since 1982, but since I’m about to enter “Codger” status, figured I’d get back to using them. Have rebuilt my arsenal of pipes since I threw out all prior ones, except my very first one the “Glacier” (loved it as it was the name of the 1st icebreaker I was assigned to), saw it around the basement a few months ago, just wish I could find it (under tons of leather and other stuff) and put it into rotation. Also, am just now learning to “sip” vs “freight train” my smokes, my what a difference it does make.

Anyway, have been reading all the great threads on this site and have even picked up a few new things and info as well. I’m an aromatic fellow and am attempting to blend my own to come up with the “perfect” one. I must have more than 50 pouches and fresh leaves down in my workshop that I’ve bought in the past couple of months. I’m sort of the like the cartoon dog that when someone shouts “SQUIRREL” I lose focus and shift to another item. My other main love (currently) is leather-working and have began making pipe and tobacco pouches, so always trying to stay busy.

Again, I really enjoy reading everyone’s point of view and chuckle at a few. Lots of great experience going on here. If anyone has any recipes that they’d like to share, I’m open. I’m located abut 25 miles south of this great nation’s confused capitol, and always looking to find like minded folks and shops between DC and Richmond, so any ideas would also be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

GW

Thanks Zack! Where are you in the Great state? I'm originally from the Beaumont area, retired in VA due to kids putting down roots and boss not wanting to move away from grandkids lol. When they "pat me in the face with a shovel" I hope it's back in Texas!!!
Twenty miles West of Ft. Worth. I noticed a Coast Guard insignia on your shoulder board. I got to spend a week on the Eagle when I was stationed in Groton.

Ohh Rah! What a beautiful sailing ship she is, and still going strong. Very, very few folks know or understand the Coast Guard. Did 30 outstanding years Active Duty, loved every minute of it and would do it again in a heartbeat!!!

We sailed from Curtis Bay, MD to the Coast Guard Academy In late March. As we got into the Atlantic we were hit by a big squall. We were carrying a bunch of sea scouts, some civilians from the Navy League, some retired admirals, the Commandant of the Academy and his wife. I was the medical officer. When I arrived onboard, I went to the sick bay. All I could find was about two miles of gauze, 100,000 doses of Dramamine, and a stack of posters like the one below. I helped myself to a poster.
When we heard the squall was coming, I offered the Dramamine in advance, but with very few takers. It got pretty rough with waves breaking over the poop deck. There were a lot of green looking people the next morning.

i still have the poster.
