Hi everyone,

First, I'm thankful for (i) helpful places like this forum, the PipeTobacco subreddit, and some of the other websites and stores (both online and b&m) that have helped me during my foray into pipes and pipe smoking, and (ii) all the people who share and contribute to make those places so helpful and informative.

I'm about three months into my journey into pipes and pipe smoking. The photo above shows what I've acquired during this time. 😅 The journey began three months ago when a friend lent me his Peterson pipe for several weeks, during which time I had about three smokes with it. After my third smoke, I felt that this was something I wanted to participate in, so I asked him some questions, did some research, and in the weeks that followed, made several purchases. 😅

Glad to be part of this community and the broader pipe community worldwide. Cheers!

Wow, you're off to a great start! Nice pic. What's the long pipe on top? I've been smoking for 12 years, and still haven't tried Capstan, Orlik GS, or Presbyterian. They're on my list, though! Hah.

Welcome to the forum from Idaho!

welcome to the best place on earth for new pipe smokers like you and me. I just joined here a few months ago after doing some research on cigarette rolling machines and roll your own tobaccos. Most of the questions I plugged into the google search bar led me to this site. In my efforts to save money and smoke less this site sent me down the pipe smoking hobby rabbit hole and man I’m so glad it did. I’ve gone from smoking 2 packs a day to about a half a pack a day now. I too have a small collection of pipes and pipe tobacco that are doing wonders for me. It’s Always cool to welcome new to the hobby and newly joined members for me. No matter how or what brought you here and to this glorious hobby I’m happy for you. And again, welcome. Happy smokes my friend. 💯🙂

You've built a larger inventory in three months than I did in my first year.

Welcome from Maryland.
Haha 😅 I tend to get into my hobbies pretty strongly and quickly. I also have enjoyed the history of pipes and pipe smoking and some of the people who smoke / have smoked pipes. And I also sold off quite a bit of stuff related to some other interests I had, so that helped me persuade myself that these purchases would be okay. 😅

Thanks for the welcome! Also, what is your favorite pipe and tobacco?

Thanks for the welcome! That pipe is a Savinelli Clark's Favorite. I got it because I liked the overall shape and the dappling on the acrylic stem.

I haven't opened all the tins or bags in the photo yet, but I've opened and tried the Capstan Blue, OGS, and Presbyterian. I like the Capstan Blue and OGS. The Presbyterian is pretty good too, although I like it a little bit less than the Capstan Blue and OGS. The Bob's Best and Nightcap I didn't quite connect with. And the other ones I haven't opened yet.

What's your favorite pipe and tobacco?

Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes, I went down the same rabbit hole too (perhaps I'm still there), and am still enjoying the journey so far.

In the past, I would smoke a few cigars or cigarillos a few times per year, but never really got into them. With pipes, I think I like the history, the associations with various thoughtful-intelligent-and-creative people in the past, the shapes and craftsmanship of the pipes themselves, and the sensory experiences of the aroma of the tobacco and the smoke and holding the warm pipe in my hand; there's a sensory experience with pipes that isn't there (for me) with cigars and cigarillos.

This meerschaum (pipe #2) and War Horse (soon to RIP, fell for this forum's brilliant marketing strategy of humorously shit-talking it), respectively.
