So how do we do this. Do we bring different tobaccos to share? I’ve never gone to a pipe smoking meet up before.

The one I used to attend in PA was hosted by Cigars International and much more formalized -- you could just attend the talk, try the tobaccos they offered that time, and get out without interacting with others if you wanted.
Honestly not a great format (although the talks were often worthwhile, with figures like Stokkebye or Oullette featured).

The first Green Bay meetup we did (which is the only one I've attended -- I missed the last one) did involve several of us putting out jars for others to try, yes.

The venue is just fantastic -- there are tables surrounded by overstuffed chairs and couches, all tucked back into corners that give the allusion of privacy.

We'll sit around a corner table and put out whatever tobaccos we want and hopefully avoid politics ;-)
You can get a drink at the bar if you like, and that first time we even ordered a pizza from a neighboring shop to share.

We did the same thing last time as well. We each brought some extra to share. I'm a need so I keep all of my tobacco stock listed in a spreadsheet. I sent that to Jake and Singularis ahead of time to see if there was anything I had that they wanted to try. It was just the 3 of us but we had a great time.

Thanks @SBC
i had planned on bringing some to share but thought I better check first. looking forward to meeting you again. It’s been 2-3 years since you came to get those pipes from me right?
mike

I was just trying to remember when that was, and came across this old thread from October of 2021:

Featuring a pipe I got off you (that I continue to enjoy very much!).

So it looks like it's been about 3.5 years!

@SBC im so glad you are still using at least one of them. I had decided to give up pipe smoking and sold them and then later decided to go back to smoking a pipe. The strong tobacco’s were effecting my medication.

I appreciate the informal format, especially with such a small group. We mostly talked about anything and everything (not JUST the world of pipes and tobacco). It’s an interesting dynamic having a group of guys together who are perfect strangers but can relate to one another because of a shared love of smoking pipes (and the fact that we are from northern Wisconsin). I’m looking forward to another relaxed and enjoyable time.

I just remembered too that the venue has a few big TVs (like your average bar but with less focus on the sports watching) and last year for our inaugural meetup, the March Madness games were playing. That may be desirable for some and not for others, but it certainly wasn’t rowdy last year. Very chill clientele there that are mostly nursing a big stogie.

And yet the air filtration there seems top notch: As one who doesn't prefer cigar leaf, I recall that the scent of cigar was very faint and did not taint my enjoyment of the pipe tobaccos I smoked.

(Postscript: I just noticed that in a previous note I said "allusion" where I meant "illusion.")
