No, we have a miscommunication. Many times aromatic smokers will say that tobacco smells like ass to them... which is a very provocative thing to say on a pipe forum. I thought that you were one of these lots, with the taste to smell part of your questioning.
So, what tobaccos smell like ass to you?

Edit- by the way, love the angry emogi response. Ha ha... love the fact that you got your panties in such a wad without further explanation. puffy
Yeah, the miscommunication comes from a sense of superiority. I don't think I have anything more to discuss with you.

I’m not sure “flavorful/doesn’t smell like ass” does much helpful in establishing meaningful parameters especially since you eventually identified your preferences as pretty much anything.

All way too subjective in terms of what is tasty or smelly on either end.

I would smoke a pipe and ask the non-smoking visitor next day describe it.

And one visitor may think it smells bad and another may not. One visitor may love anything, one only Latakia and on and on - not really much at all to gauge from that. The impression given was how you were perceiving the “aroma” so IMO the more info and specific you can toss out from the beginning, the better.

Generally speaking, blends heavy with Latakia or perique are more offensive to the nostrils of nonsmokers - however, some people LOVE the campfire smell of Latakia, so it’s not always a sure thing.

Burleys can get a little cigarette-y, but many are topped with a cocoa or nut additive that smell very festive, and some people like that.

Virginias are usually pretty well tolerated - they tend to have a sweet and savoury mustiness the next day that is well tolerated.

YMMV, but I personally recommend a simple light Virginia, or a cocoa-y burley blend. A Virginia perique blend that’s not heavy on the perique can be quite nice too.

But like everyone else is saying, nothing is ever a certainty when it comes to matters of taste. What one friend loves, another might loathe. I think the only one I’m somewhat confident about is plain burleys - I’ve yet to meet a non smoker who likes the smell of a blend like Pegasus.

Here’s hoping the employee at your local smoke shop knows his pipe tobacco, because it’s a toughie without knowing what’s available. Theres a broad spectrum within all the blend types I mentioned, and they are certainly not all made equal.

For what it’s worth, I don’t get the nazi vibe from you 😉

Yeh, I hear things like "wet leather and incense" when I am smoking a Balkan. But, I do know that some tasty blends with latakia can also smell like burning tires.
I have never had anyone complain about a straight Virginia.

Aromatics are hit or miss. Cherry, vanilla, and the more fruity ones do have an acrid smell the next day. The room note usually tapers pretyty fast from gandpa's pipe to the smell of a candle that was just blown out.

My wife is not the biggest fan of burleys, because I don't care for the cased ones... but, when I am smoking a burley, I don't usually give a F what she thinks, ha ha.

In the early days of my pipe smoking, my girlfriend gushed about some Latakia blend I was smoking and begged me to smoke it inside now and then so she could enjoy the woodsy aroma, and I foolishly thought I could get away with any Lat blend indoors. I tried smoking a bowl of pirate kake later that week and got a worried suggestion that I must have been overheating the stem, as all she could smell was burning plastic 😂

Lesson learned! Campfire good, creosote fire bad

In your end of the world Mac Baren tobaccos should be relatively easy to find, so I'd recommend Mac Baren 7 Seas Red Blend and Vanilla Cream Loose Cut. The 7 Seas Red has a very natural tart cherry aroma and tastes just like it smells, and the Vanilla Cream smells like mild Virginia tobaccos with natural unsweetened vanilla added and tastes just the same. Both will provide your guests with a very pleasant and inoffensive room note. Everyone I smoke either of them around says they both smell great!puffy

After smoking some rather bland tobaccos, I want to experience something that is very flavorful and won't make my home smell like ass the very next day. My hometown has only one small tobacco store so nothing too rare please.

Go on line at The Country Squire and buy 2-4 ounces of a few of their house-blended aromatics. You will find one or more that suit you.

Cosmic is great. A bit prickly but trust me he's a lot like a stinky cheese. At first he makes your eyes water and your stomach turn knots in its self. But soon you find yourself missing his museings.

Luckily he does seem to be well versed in his own business. I am not really caring about visitors as I hardly get any, but after nearly three years of cigarette free, I don't want that smell in my home again. I guess it could be kind of hard to describe for some, but I assumed it wouldn't be so much guessing after looking through tobacco reviews and generally agreeing on people's ratings on the room smell. Some tobaccos smell absolutely amazing in the house, despite if they linger or not while others are just awful and leave that smell of ashtrays quite soon.

I don't really get that one guy's reaction to my post at all, I guess people just become different on the internet(?).

I'll never miss drama on the internet since you can always find drama on the internet.
In real life you rarely you have to suffer from it.

The forum's ignore function is very useful.
Yes, that's why I used it. Would you say that Peterson blends are better or worse on average than others? Our store seems to focus on them. Out of the several I have tested from them, I think I enjoyed Old Dublin the most.
It was also sold in the tin before all the tins were sold after the drab olive plastic bag became enforced.
