With all the freaks and weirdo's out there today trying to be "individuals" you'd think that a guy dressed like most anyone you see with the only difference being he has a pipe stuck in his pie hole. That's weird??? Who the hell cares what your tobacco delivery device is. I've seen people in the Capital Hill district in Seattle who were way beyond weird to me yet they would think I was weird smoking this illegal weed in their fair city. Pot is more legal in Wa. than tobacco is it would seem.

Probably a big friendly smile is the best public relations for tobacco pipes. The nonverbal

message being, hey, life is great and this tobaccy is terrific! Not everyone, but most people,

are going to cave in to that.

It's a strange world where it's socially acceptable to smoke weed but not to smoke tobacco.

Brewshooter I don't believe it's the pipe their afraid of and more than man cleaning his guns in the front yard :p
Nonsense, who wouldn't be pleased to see an individual excercising his second amendment right? No, no, undoubtedly, it was the pipe that threw them off!

Let's be honest, you dress like this to attract attention. It worked very well so why are you surprised? I did this when I was younger too it is very normal. Be it hipster, goth, steampunk it is really just all cospaly. Trying to define your self as an individual, a part of growing up.

I get looks (mostly ones of idle curiosity) when I am out and about in public with my pipe.
Mostly, I think it has to do with the fact that I am not really dressed how some would expect a pipe smoker to look. Shorts, T-Shirt, and baseball cap does not exactly scream 'pipe-smoker.' Although, I am usually smoking my MM Ozark Mt. Hardwood, so I guess it is appropriate to my casual attire.

I get the strange looks too. Being a young pipe smoker of 21, people smirk and some sneer. I just smile and lift my pipe to them. They don't have to like it, so long as you do.

If I didn't get strange looks while smoking my pipe in public, I would be worried something was wrong. If if bothers you, smoke in private but my suggestion is this:
Smoke what you like while in public, have a smile on your face, and nod (or wave) to the pretty ladies (or gentlemen if it applies). Nothing wrong with being different and nothing wrong with people acknowledging the difference.

I'm twenty-one, wear shorts year round, and often go barefoot. Lunting down the street like that does sometimes draw attention. Oddly enough, the attention I do draw is almost always positive.
