People underrate pets all the time. My cat handles the investment management for our 401k portfolio and his returns have been phenomenal.

Speaking of pets and health, cat ownership actually DOES have a positive influence when it comes to hearts:

Excessive alcohol consumption can increase stroke risk, at least this was the case for my late father. Here's a link (Does drinking alcohol raise the risk of stroke?) to a 2019 summary article published by Harvard Health Publishing / Harvard University Medical School, and which addresses this issue.

I will pray for you, too.

Thanks for this. Doctors will tell you that one of the factors that greatly contributes to morbidity and mortality are lifestyle choices, but that these are often the changes that patients are most unwilling to make. I would be inclined to think that radical lifestyle changes including significant reduction in alcohol consumption, caloric restriction, and regular cardiovascular exercise might reduce risk of further strokes considerably, or at least attenuate the contributing underlying conditions substantially.

I remember a childhood friend’s father suffering a massive stroke at age 59. I had just talked to him and went on a short motorcycle ride with his son. We returned to find an ambulance. He couldn’t do more than squeeze the hand of his wife and mercifully passed 4 days later.

A month ago, his son, my friend suffered a stroke at age 60. A minor one. It as affected his left side, which I can see in his gait and mannerism. He realizes now that things need to change. It’s genetic. No more seafood. Gone are the days of high cholesterol feasts. Strange thing is that he has two aunts that lived to be 103 and 104.

Don’t know why I’m sharing but I hope you find the strength and the motivation to make the tough changes. I know it’s hard. Stick with your plan and around for another couple of decades. There ate undiscovered blends to enjoy!

After a night of heavy drinking, feeling much better. I'm not a doctor and I don't really understand the results. I can see what they said on results and somethings are blocked. Brief search indicate it increases the chance of stroke/TIA. Possible surgery seems to be an option. So need to talk to my neurologist to find out exactly what's going on and what my options are. Can't really predict if there will be another stroke or not. Might not happen at all.
Hi Bullet08, I'm sorry to hear this and will pray for your proper management and recovery. May I please suggest the following for your consideration ? I would suggest an experienced Family Practice GP to over see your complete medical picture since you seem to have several things going on medically. I would ask the GP to recommend a very good endocrinologist to oversee your diabetes treatment and diet. Then a vascular specialist for blood flow. Continue to see a neurologist for treating the current issue but you need doctors to come up with the plan for treating the causes that led to it. A must is to have them all coordinate and keep each other informed of tests and treatment. If the GP knows and recommends them this usually isn't an issue since they work together frequently anyway. I would also recommend finding ones in private practice rather than a hospital owned mill where you may become a number. My GP saved my life twice on two different issues and got me to the people I needed to consult. And I was not an unhealthy person --- just got wacked out of the blue with two genetic issues that run in the family and suddenly appeared at the worst level. Praying for you ! Don't panic its just another problem to solve !

Spoke to neurologist. Both right and left sides of brain has number of stenosis. One blood vessel leading to brain near spinal cord is pretty much blocked. No chance of surgery. Been referred to stroke specialist for further discussion. I know this just means things aren't good, but no way to know when or if stroke will come. Or it will be series of small ones like I have been having or big one. So, wait and see
