Re boats: we own two canoes and a sea kayak for lakes and placid streams. We hire water taxis for ocean trips to remote cabins or yurts.

I appreciate the great pictures of your fishing spots. This thread needed a couple of Alaska fish pictures so here they are. I’ve been fly fishing for something like 40 years. Once you get a good set of gear together it can be a really inexpensive way to spend some time out in nature. A pipe in the pocket, and maybe a flask on your hip, might be the best way to rest a hole that the Good Lord gave us.

I quit having a boat and saved a ton of money and frustration... plus I don't have some many steps between me and fishing now.

The bank is free and everywhere around me.

Now when I had a pontoon boat with a slip at the marina, that was good living... but suddenly the slip rent went so I high that I couldn't justify it.

Glad to see the fishing thread again. It’s been rough here. Water temps are finally ok again but the lack of rain has made things tough. The creeks are superrrr skinny right now. Hoping that changes soon….

My dad started me out around 3 years old, so I've been fishing for 60 years now. It's a wonderful gift to give a child. Last Friday after work I headed up to a favorite mountain lake and Saturday morning was rewarded with these pretty cutthroats. I also caught 8 rainbows that I released. Sunday they went into the smoker with alder as my choice of wood. Not much better eating than that. That's an 8" knife for scale.

I'm heading to Grand Isle/LA next week, to fish for our famed redfish. I'll hope to have some pictures to show. (Fly rod and Kayak). I'm mountain steam trout fisherman, fishing seated from a Kayak had been a challenge. I'll also be sight casting,I guess that's similar to rising trout.

So I've taken up the hobby of fishing since I now have a personal pond. It's stocked with bluegill, bass, and catfish. It also has snapping turtles haha. Anyone else enjoy fishing? Perfect sport for pupe smoking.
I learned to fish on my grandpa's farm pond and mostly fished farm ponds for bass and panfish until I had opportunities to also fish for smallmouth, walleye and northerns in larger lakes near and far - used to go to Canada at least once a year. Loved the different directions it took me - taught myself how to fly fish, for a time got into tying flies which was really fun. Sold my fishing boat a few years ago and haven't had my daughters for fishing partners for a long time so I haven't been fishing for some time - I was nuts about it from the time I was about 12 years old. I'm jealous! Having my own farm pond was always a dream, but so far not realized. Enjoy!

One thing I miss about living in a land locked state is deep sea fishing. I have fond memories of fishing for salmon out of Monterey California with my Grandfather, Mom and Uncle. Fresh off the boat seafood is hard to beat.

Before I got messed up, I was into flyfishing and had great gear. Fishing for bluegill has always been my favorite
as i always said that I was President of the "Catch & Eat Foundation" I had to sell my Thomas&Thomas 10wt., Loomis 8wt GLX but I gave my Dr. my Thomas&Tjhomas 8wt beautiful cobalt rod. I still have my favorite 7wt Winston which has been my favorite, and my sons 4wt Powell 7 1/2 ft rod with a J.Ryall Jr reel, the ultimate Bluegill setup. after I got screwed up I was in my power chair down by the local community fishing ponds and met another guy in a power chair and he was telling me that since I was disabled that I could get lifetime fishing license so I did and I have not wet a line yet. now I don't Have enough strength to hold up anything more than a four wt.rod and it would have to be something that I could go right up to the edge of a pond in my power chair' cause I cannot stand up by myself.

panfish on a small rod are a hoot. I had a little 7' Thomas & Thomas 3 weight. When I left MD, I gave it to a buddy.

A buddy and I finally made it down to Grand Isle LA, which is like the end of the world. I bought an 8 weight TFO rod to use for redfish. It was difficult fishing for me, very windy and I struggled with the 8 wt rod and casting seated. (no standing in my small 10.5' Hobie). The water in the marsh was only 1' deep at times, so there was no using my pedals and I paddled. I put a trolley line on my kayak for an anchor pole. Learning to use it, trying to keep the kayak in one spot and managing fly line took some time. Fishing was slow. I only hooked one big redfish, found him for about 2 minutes before losing him. You have to strip set the hook on a redfish and in the heat of the moment, I forgot, cost me the fish. But, I'll be better prepared next time. The road literally ends at the Gulf, it was pretty desolate!

Sun coming up.

This guy checked me out for about 5 minutes.

There were about 100 herons on that tree line. Half white, half pink. Wish I could have pulled off a photo when they all took flight.
