Living in a truck, I don't get to go barefoot all that often. On most days I pull of my boots when I take a shower and when I go to bed. That is about it.
I am spending a few days in a motel and nursing a seriously injured left big toe so I am trying to not wear my boots any more than necessary as the boot hurts the toe. I am loving going barefoot. Not only is it helping my toe heal more quickly but it just feels damn good.
This motel is rare in that the room has hardwood floors instead of carpeting. I love that. The wood feels really good under my feet, much better than carpet would feel (too much like socks).
I have bumped my sore toe a couple of times, I will admit. It hurt like hell. But over all, not wearing footwear has done a lot to allow my toe to heal and has just felt really damn good. It has been a long, long time since I have spent any substantial time without any sort of footwear and I am truly enjoying it. I really need to do this more often.
For those who live a "normal" life this may seem like a pretty petty sort of thing, but just try to imagine spending all of your time, except for showers and sleeping, wearing shoes or boots. No time off on the couch or going to the fridge for ice cream in bare feet. Just sleep or footwear.
I never really thought about it until now, but damn it going barefoot feels damn good. I am going to have to do it more often.

Hah I suppose I'm lucky in my appreciation for going barefoot. It really does feel good and I'd even say that you should try going barefoot in the truck or at least get some comfy sandals. It may just make driving that much more enjoyable.

This is all I hope for at the end of my life, and I'm sort of living my life with this as the end goal....

Driving a big rig barefoot is illegal so I don't do it. It is also just a bad idea. That clutch is so strong that you would develop some serious arch troubles pretty fast.
And I am not a sandals sort of person except when I am at the beach.

wait, you live in your truck?

Oh sir, you have NO idea how much I envy that lifestyle...
It isn't all it's cracked up to be, but yes I live in the truck and get a hotel room (like now) once in a while. I much prefer living on a sailboat but this pays better LOL.
My truck has a built in fridge, a microwave, and other comfort features that makes it livable.

Thanks, Lawrence. A co-worker dropped 20,000 lbs of steel on my left foot last Wednesday and smashed my toes. Needless to say I have been in a little bit of pain ever since. The big toe is a very interesting shade of purple. LOL
It is all good and will heal as time allows.

I am drinking a gin and tonic in honor of your fallen toe! haha... I used to go to my college once a week barefoot, I used to call it No Shoe Tuesday (catchy name right!?!) I still go on walks with the wife barefoot and if it is an indoor track I will run barefoot. I have knee problems with ALL shoes I wear, but barefoot doesn't hurt at all! If I was able to, I would go barefoot for life!

Bubba, in my youth I loathed wearing shoes but these days I am a tenderfoot and need well designed shoes/boots. I remember picking sandspurs out of my feet without a thought. These days I can't even step on a pebble barefoot without cringing.

PT, I figured you were off a few days by the # of posts you've been getting in :)

I feel you on the living in a truck thing. I did it for awhile, but found a dedicated route, home 3 nights a week, and that fit me better. Now I lost that job, just trashing around until I find something better. I'm looking at getting out of it all (saw my first truck with Chihuahua license plates hauling american freight 2 weeks ago) but I'm sure I'll be back in a truck within a couple of weeks.

Are you an O/O ? You might think about putting in hardwood floors in the truck next time you have a few days off ! Known a few drivers that have done it. It would be pretty cheap if you find a Home Depot somewhere, and do it yourself.

Good luck with the toe thing man, that doesn't sound fun.

Lonestar: I used to be an o/o but these days I am a company driver, doing specialized hauling, working for percentage, and loving it.
I live in the truck at the moment by my own choice. It's a long story.
The "toe thing" is just a stuff happens sort of thing. No big deal. I have been injured worse. But thanks. I take things as they come, both good and bad.
I am not at all concerned about those Mexican trucks, they can't touch what I haul, but I can see them cutting into some of the general freight hauler loads. But then, Canadians have been running down here under the same deal for years now so I don't see it as that big of a deal.
There is enough to go around.

Another thing you might consider, I wore nothing but boots for years myself, finally started wearing a pair of new balance running shoes in the truck. It makes a lot of difference at the end of the day.

Now I only wear boots when the weather is going to be nasty.
