I think I’ll start an internet forum debate between Glock and 1911 owners. What could go wrong?
A better debate would be 1911 vs 2011 or striker fired vs hammer fired, or auto loader vs revolver.
THATS where things get spicy. :)
There are generally 3 camps.
The old school metal frame people. These guys love 1911s, Beretta 92 & 96 and revolvers. They absolutely reject the notion of "Tupperware" gun. They love the history and precise manufacturing of a good firearm.
Then you have the "gun bros". These guys like super fast, high capacity polymer framed striker fired or DA/SA handguns. They love to add weapon mounted lights, magazine flares, Apex triggers, red dots and any other upgrade. They love AR15s, AKs and all MSRs. They generally wear plate carriers, gloves and helmets when plinking at the range. They require 74 targets of different sizes, at different distances just to practice. They believe the former type are boomer FUDDS. Oh, and 99% of them have beards.
The third type are somewhere in between. They like ALL guns, of all types and have attributes of both of the other types. They have everything from SAA revolvers, to high end polymer race guns. They get along with both of the other camps. That's where I am. I like them all. And I do have the plate carriers, gloves and helmets, but wouldn't be caught dead wearing them at a public range. :)

Yeah, everyone has an opinion. People even argue between the 1911 and 1911A1 models. I do own a Colt 1911A1 (as well as an original Colt 1902). A quality and tuned 1911 has the best trigger of any semi-auto pistol I’ve shot.

But, for CC I choose a S&W .38 J-frame, or my Kimber Micro 9 (basically a mini 1911).

My favorite .22 pistols are the Ruger Mark IV, and S&W K-22 Masterpiece.

If I was heading off for an extended trip into the wilderness, I’d choose my S&W .357 revolver (and a rifle).

I don’t own a Glock, but have shot them, and would trust one over a cheaply made 1911 any day.

While I might be big enough to pull it off, I have no intentions of going CCW with my stainless steel Pietta .44 Buffalo (for those who aren't familiar, that's an Italian replica of the 1858 Remington cap & ball revolver, but in the Buntline-length barrel of 12 inches)

If it's anything other than a 9mm, then yes.

Those whose buck the 9mm standard are the true contrarians.
I edc a glock 20 (10mm) most days because I've seen 9mm fail too many times. There are absolutely zero humans walking around with 5 or 9 10mm scars. Plus I'm in the woods a lot either here in WNY or at our property in Alaska. I've used my handgun in defense 3x, two bears and once with feral dogs. Luckily I didn't have to shoot any of them, just gave them a scare. They were just nosey, not attacking. I never feel under prepared with Underwood 180 grain XTP in my glock.
If I don't have the glock, it's a Ruger GP100 3 inch because it's much cooler and prettier than the glock.
And if I'm going somewhere and need to be low key, it's a gen 1 S&W M&P Shield 9mm. :(

Y’all are missing the boat if you aren’t sporting a CZ-52 with PPU jacketed hollowpoints! 85gr. at almost 1700 fps. Very manageable muzzle flip. And the KEWL factor…oh my.

7.62x25 is one of the most overlooked and under appreciated cartridges in the Western world. Developed from the .30 Mauser of C96 fame, it was the standard handgun and submachine gune round of the Soviets during WWII and into the 80’s in satellite countries.

Now, with modern JHP’s it should be common in western civilian self-defense weapons, but it isn’t, mostly because of the glut of surplus ammo and pistols that existed in the 1990’s. Norinco made some very good, very hot rounds for subgun use that was available surplussed (cheap) in the US in the mid-90’s. I’ve burned through 5k rounds of it with no failures. Tambak case, non-corrosive. But it was FMJ. When that stuff disappeared, PPU came out with some very good brass cased FMJ and JHP.

I would trust that gun and alternating JHP/FMJ’s with my life. The FMJ’s will more than penetrate a IIIA vest, and the JHP’s will leave a wound cavity that will stop most threats. I’d love to see a double-stack SIG chambered for it, but I had to settle for .357 SIG instead.

As a left leaning moderate I love and appreciate all guns. In this home, all guns are welcome here lol 😆

Sadly, there is no room for us social moderates in today’s world. I like to think that my politics haven’t changed dramatically over the past 62 years, but the party left me quite a while ago.
