Doesn't have to be by Peter Heeschen. I'm just really drawn to these pipes. The shape, the grain, the finish, the bands and stem. Very handsome pipes. It can be something very similar from another artist. In fact, it sounds like it wouldn't be attainable unless it is indeed something by another artist/company.

The usual spots: ebay and the site sponsors. One seems to have sold for cheap on ebay multiple times recently. You can search ebay completed listings for an idea of availability and price.

Uncle Peter's pipes went for around $650 when he was alive or at least that's what I remember. They look like they fetch around $500 now on ebay from reputable estate sellers.

I really wanted a Heeschen bent P very badly when he was still carving but I couldn't justify it with two young kids. I then lucked out about three years ago and found one on ebay with really bad photos which resulted in low ball bids. It's now one of my prized possessions.

I don't know anyone else who does or did the bent P shape.

Wow, thanks for the insight, and congrats on obtaining one of these gorgeous pipes!

I probably have no business owning such a fine pipe, and certainly shouldn't spend $500+, but I do turn 40 years young soon and it would be quite a gift.

Mr. Pease, if you're reading this, I live nearby (Oakland) and I will trade you 5 shitty basket pipes for one of your Peter Heeschens lol. Let me know :P

Those are some beauties. I thought the same thing when I saw GLP's article that mentioned them.

From Greg's site-

"These pipes are a little special. The two were cut from the same piece of briar, and are as identical as two pipes can be. These are special "Tasting" pipes that I use when comparing similar blend prototypes..."

Doesn't sound like he'll ever be willing to part with them. Dang.

Yes, that article made me start to consider idea of commissioning two artisan pipes with just a bit of variation between them. Maybe differences in color, or maybe one in a blast, and one smooth. Anything is fair game. A matched pair could be something where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I've been perfectly happy with my small rotation of very basic briars, but seeing GLP's Heeschens makes the idea of custom artisan pipes seem even more intriguing. I love the "cut from the same piece of briar" aspect.

I have one that I purchased from Greg over 20 years ago when he was the only dealer of Peter's pipes. Over the years I became a friend of Peter, and for many reasons I don't think I would ever sell this pipe. If and when I have time I will try to post a picture.

Well I ended up asking Mark Tinsky to do a piece inspired by Pease’s matched Heeschens, and he brought this 3-star beauty to life with a quickness. It’s not an exact copy by any means, but I wanted Mark to have room to make it his own. Mark had nothing but kind words to say about Peter and seemed genuinely delighted to honor him with this gorgeous custom pipe.
