I bought GL Pease's Quiet Nights a few weeks ago and plan to try it later this evening. It's been jarred and smelling it this morning it was sooo delicious! Wow. I want to eat it. It sort of reminds me of FMC but I have zero expectations that it will taste the same nor that it will emit the same room note. Update later.

It's stronger than FMC and has no whisky, but you could say it's in the same family. It's one of Pease's best regarded blends and certainly worth testing.

I like Quiet Nights, but from GLP I prefer Maltese Falcon.

Not much out there that will scratch the FMC itch, but if you like it you might like Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding (especially the barrel aged version). Sillem's Black would be another good option, although that one is only available from time to time.

GL Pease quiet nights is the first blend with latakia that i actually really enjoyed. When i read the reviews and tin description i rember thinking i dont know about this. Words like Earthy, musty, woodsy, tangy, pungent....but it was good and smooth and a pleasure to puff. To bad it won't make the cut off date. Ill have to start grabbing a few more tins.

Latakia can be expressed in many ways. While the Lat is not shy in Quiet Nights, neither is it overwhelming. The natural bitterness of Lat is here offset by the sweetness of the dark Virginias and the pressing. Also the touch of perique adds a pleasant note. Let us know what you think.

Quiet Nights is a something everyone ought to try when exploring English blends. Great balance and flavor.

If QN is a little too much for your tastes Chelsea Morning may be more liking. To me they’re a great compliment to each other. Which to pick depends on your mood at the time.

I agree with this...Ive always seen these two as brother and sister blends.

QN is wonderful stuff, the perique really makes the blend for me. Love the way it works under the Lat and dark VAs. It’s definitely a contemplative smoke, one I usually save for a quiet night...a ha ha ha.

Thanks for the recommendation. I do plan on checking out Maltese Falcon, have heard great things about it.

When is that cutoff date? I keep reading different dates but obviously I'm not clear on what I'm reading.

Meridian is another. It's the "afternoon" smoke of the three. Pease replicated the Dunhill approach with these blends (i.e. an English blend for morning, afternoon, and evening smokes with increasing levels of strength and latikia as the day progressed). The Dunhill equivalents were Early Morning Pipe, Mixture 965, and Nightcap. They also a pre-dinner smoke called Apertiff. Pease's apertiff blend would be Samara.

Oh it's fantastic stuff. It's really good fresh, but wait until you see what a couple of years can do to it. Quiet nights, Star of the East Flake, and Lancer Slices; all become magic.
