Anyone enjoy Gin & Tonics around here? I'm all for good scotches and other drinks but man- in this hot summer- I've just been loving me some G&T.
Technically, what I drink is actually a modified Gin Ricky. I don't want all the sugar/sweetness of tonic water. So at the risk of sounding just a little girly, here's what I do:
1 packet Stevia

2-3 heavy dashes lime juice (I like a lot)

1ish oz of Gin- or more if its been a long day :)

4 ice cubes

fill remainder of glass with Club Soda

Stir
Its perfect for my tastes

Me too.
I tend to like them on the sweet side and prefer Tanqueray Ten lately. Just toss a lime slice in there and we're good.
Ohin recommend some Latakia while drinking gin and it was good advice. The smokey flavor brings out the sweetness of the gin and the usual accompanying Orientals take on a kind of olive flavor.

I actually really like the bitter of the quinine in tonic, and love me just an old-school g&t. Tanq 10 is a nice gin for G&T. I also really like the floral notes of Bombay Sapphire for a g&t.

Pruss-
Its true that you lose that sort of bitter/grapefruity thing that tonic has going on. Now you're making me miss it :)

I love a gin and tonic on the nights I want a change from scotch. I usually include a lime rubbing it around the glass first like they do in the Tanqueray commercial. I going to try it your way tonight Tarak. Thanks for posting

Oh heck yeah I love me some G&T's I am also a fan of the Bombay Sapphire it has a nice strong gin flavor, And I usually throw in about a half a lime for the first drink and then keep adding 1/4 every drink I make in the same glass.
Cheers

I add a few dashes of bitters to G&T. It turns it a light pink and adds an awesom flavor. My wife likes tonic water with bitters and extra lime.
I also like gin and bitters in a martini glass. It is suppose to be mixed with Plymoth gin or any gin that is not dry. I like New Amsterdam gin for it. And at $15 for a jug it is much more affordable than Plymoth gin.

OP has motivated me. Going to have to go pick up some Cold River gin and Polar tonic water. Keeping it Maine! (Or at least New England in the case of Polar). No Maine limes though, pity. :P

+1 St. Pete!
Only for me that bowl gets loaded with Solani 633. I'm finally coming around on Virginias and VA/Periques; and my normal load of English or Balkan would just knock the stuffing out of the delicate flavours of Bombay.
At the folks' farm with nary a liqour store in site... having to make do with a craft brewed IPA. But it's happily at a 62 IBU so I'm getting my grapefruity bitter lovliness just the same.
Happy Saturday friends.

I had a bad month one night with gin 35 years ago and have not touched it since. My daughter, on the other hand, got into them pretty good last night. The apple fell close to the tree.

For a summer drink I like Pimm's No.1 Cup with ginger ale. Light enough not to get you whoozy and refreshing on a hot day.

To each their own eh? I love the almost juniper-esque notes of Tanq. It just gives and gives flavour. I am, however, with you on Beefeater. I prefer Gordon's if going for a traditional London Dry gin.

Alex. See if you can grab a shooter of Tanq 10. Its a bit sweeter the the standard. I like it near frozen with an olive or two.

Alright, I see everyone paying a lot of money for good gin only to mix it with cheap tonic.

Mixing a top shelf Gin with a bubbly high fructose tonic is borderline criminal.

Do yourselves a favor, invest in Fever Tree or Q's tonic.

I promise it will bring your G&T to a new level.
Cheers

My ultimate G+T's are always with Hendricks Gin, Fentimans Tonic, and lime.

Spot on Martiniman! I couldn't agree more...don't mix quality gin with cheap tonic! Fever Tree is outstanding. I prefer Bluecoat gin, made in Philadelphia, or Hendricks.
Saintpeter..Your post stirs many a pleasant memory of the best part of a day afield!
