I'm the one who posted that bit about being a young Navy Ensign commissioned the day JFK was shot. Do the math, and it means I'm pushing 72. I have three memories from WWII: I can remember ration stamps, I remember the blackout curtains on the windows (we lived 100 yards from the Atlantic Ocean, and I can remember the victory parades as the troops marched down our street.
I have to agree with Puffy who said he would buy more high grade pipes. That would mean that instead of the 100 or so pipes of varying grades that I've got, I'd have only 15-20 higher grade pipes. Who knew? But I have to share a thought with you: Fred Hanna was right when he said that a $50 pipe will smoke as good as a $500 pipe. If the pipe is well-engineered, and the briar is good quality, you've got it all right there. The top grade pipes don't smoke any better--they've just got more artistry in them. That may be worth something to some of us, but it doesn't necessarily lead to a better smoke.
Here are two thoughts to consider:
For those of you who are complaining about getting older, consider the alternative.
And finally, I can walk, talk, blink my eyes, make love and make water. Life is good.
