I am getting older by the day (66 currently) and it is indeed tough and a challenge to maintain quality health. I am thankful that I can still light my pipes and read my books, listen to my music and play with my three rescue dogs.
Best wishes to all seniors!

I feel old due to my disability and mobility issues and all the medications I take. I was able to work for 30 years which I consider good. When I was born, the doctors told my parents to plan my funeral.
Regardless of age, do the best you can each day and help other family members.

I always say that you are only as old as you feel. Today I feel like a kid again, tomorrow I might actually feel 66. But where the hell did the years go????

I walk a lot. Try to get 5 to 6 miles in every other day. About 25 per week. Fast walking. Try to eat right too. Feel better in my 50s than I did in my 30s. Weigh less. Blood work spot on. Pipe all day long. Pound a month. Can't stress enough how important walking is. Not running. Not the gym. Not sports. Just plain old fashioned walking. It's free and just takes an hour of every other day. Just you, your shoes, and God Almighty.

gosh, Anthony ... if you look at it like that, you've been alive almost as long as I've been smoking my pipes ... it's no damn wonder I'm starting to feel old ...

If you have ever felt depressed by the sight of hair turning gray, think of the Scottish grannie of a friend who said:
"Better gray hair than nae hair"

I'm 34 but feel at least 10 years older than that. With three kids, the oldest of which just turned 17 this week (do the math, I started WAY too early in life) there's never a lack of things to do deal with. Fortunately I have my pipes and cigars to help keep me sane. Now I just have to find the time and energy to work on that general health stuff.

Let me see, if I keep up with my to-do list, I should be ready to slow down at the age of 140. That's not

a likely life span, but if I can keep moving, I may get some things done in the years ahead; knock on wood,

as my mom used to say, an expression that supposedly comes from the Celts who would knock on wood to

awaken the spirits that lived in the trees and in wooden objects.

I really appreciate an interchange between David James Elliot's character in the TV series "JAG" and guest star Ernest Borgnine. Borgnine was portraying an old military man, when his age came up, which was, I think, about 70. Elliot said something like, "I don't know what it would be like to be 70.", to which Borgnine responded, "Sure you do. You would feel just like you do now, except in a 70 year old body." That is SO true; mentally I still feel like I'm 30, but in a 67 year old body....

...up hill and down hill...

That's amazing! Around here the hills only go up.

I'm beginning to think the world is like an Escher drawing.

I too was born in 74, due to a series of industrial accidents, motorcycle wrecks, the genius ideas of my younger days and one cougar attack I have more than one set of bad joints. A doctor during a physical a few years ago actually looked at me and said "Son you got more bad joints than a bag of ditch weed." I walk 3 miles a day, fast, and in nasty weather the mall down the street was built in a loop that is almost a mile around. I have found that staying physically active is the best medicine. As for feeling old well I'm working on it but I have a few years to go. my wife who is a few years younger than me likes to joke that she is f@#$%*ng old :)

In regards to pipes and tobacco I wished I had a site like this so I could have learned at a much faster clip. I would have understood early on I have a body chemistry issue with Red Virginia's and could have saved my self a lot of pain and money by avoiding blends like that. I also would have learned much earlier what features are in a pipe that makes is a great smoker for me and not wasted time and money chasing pipes that were not good smoker for me. I would have learned early on that you cannot smoke grain, hence saving myself a boat load of money. I would have learned that smoking properties is more important than looks.

Cougars attacks are a real issue where I live as well. In fact just yesterday I saw stiletto marks in the snow and cigarette butts. I fear I am being stalked by a cougar.

I'm the one who posted that bit about being a young Navy Ensign commissioned the day JFK was shot. Do the math, and it means I'm pushing 72. I have three memories from WWII: I can remember ration stamps, I remember the blackout curtains on the windows (we lived 100 yards from the Atlantic Ocean, and I can remember the victory parades as the troops marched down our street.
I have to agree with Puffy who said he would buy more high grade pipes. That would mean that instead of the 100 or so pipes of varying grades that I've got, I'd have only 15-20 higher grade pipes. Who knew? But I have to share a thought with you: Fred Hanna was right when he said that a $50 pipe will smoke as good as a $500 pipe. If the pipe is well-engineered, and the briar is good quality, you've got it all right there. The top grade pipes don't smoke any better--they've just got more artistry in them. That may be worth something to some of us, but it doesn't necessarily lead to a better smoke.
Here are two thoughts to consider:

For those of you who are complaining about getting older, consider the alternative.

And finally, I can walk, talk, blink my eyes, make love and make water. Life is good.
