Hello all, I am retiring next year and took up the practice of smoking a tobacco pipe this year; at 62 years of age. I love the flavor of tobacco and purchase many types of tobacco just because the variety is just so extensive. Each type of tobacco I like even though they are all so different. I'm working on making my own humidor because the moist tobacco seems to provide a more flavorful smoke. I am also working on the meter, the rhythm of smoking in such a way that the pipe remains lit but not hot. I find that hot smoke causes tongue bite so I try to avoid that. I am pleased to be a member here and wish everyone the best.

I am the other way round I get more from dry tobacco.

My bet is looking at it as tending the ember might help more. Personally for me thinking of it in terms of sipping like with good whiskey or brandy works best.

Welcome from Durham in the UK. Before you build anything read the collective wisdom on tobacco storage. It will help.
