Ford and Warren:
The Moore you're referring to is Harold Moore, right? From Joe Galloway's "We Were Soldiers Once... And Young," correct?

Fnord, yes, but his name is Lieutenant General Hal Moore (Ret.). I like him not because of the movie and book although both are great. After I got hurt I was replaced by a Staff Sergeant that had just come off of a pogue assignment in D.C. who had been arraigning hotels and transportation for families that were having a soldier in their family buried at Arlington. As that Staff put it a old guy walks into his office and says: "You don't know me but I am Lieutenant General Hal Moore (Ret.) one of my boys died and I want a 5 star hotel and limos for the family. I want red carpet treatment for them.". Now the thing that made me decide he is good to go is the trooper was not an officer he was an enlisted grunt and yet Lieutenant General Moore (Ret.) took a trip to D.C. and made sure the family is treated like royalty. That says all I need to know about him. Taking care of his soldiers even after all that time, squared the fuck away! Now that is a true leader of men!! Heck if he asked me I drag my sorry old broke down ass into the harness and jump into hell with him.

What I know about the man, Gen. Moore, leads me to believe I would have liked him. He seemed to have his priorities in the correct order, was wise enough to choose a good woman (she appears to come from the same mold), had an abiding faith in God, loved his family and his soldiers (and their families), was a solid field commander wisely supported by a great Sgt Maj. He understood his place in life and embraced the responsibilities placed upon him. I've found nothing in his life, as presented in the book and by Hollywood, not to admire.
A long dinner with brandy and cigars would have been very educational I think.
