They were found dead along with their dog. The police are currently investigating and have said there's no immediate indication of foul play. Wonder if it could be a carbon monoxide leak, or something?

Loved him in so many movies. The French Connection, Superman, The Conversation, Bonnie and Clyde, Unforgiven. Definitely one of the finest actors of his generation. A real shame

“The Santa Fe County Sheriff's office said: "On 26 February, 2025 at approximately 1:45 p.m., Santa Fe County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to an address on Old Sunset Trail in Hyde Park where Gene Hackman, 95 and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64 and a dog were found deceased."

Governor Blair and his wife died of mixing carbon monoxide and 90 proof.

He was a great actor with a range stretching from Popeye Doyle to Lex Luthor. I don't think he every had a bad role.

We will have to wait and see if it was CO2 poisoning.
I find it strange that they and their dog was found dead and the police have ruled out "foul play."

For sure...one of the best...so many memorable roles...had a certain screen presence that always brought so much to a film. Little Bill in Unforgiven will probably always be the first that comes to mind when I think of him.

Good that he lived to a ripe old age, but very unfortunate to see it end in this manner with his wife and dog. I do hope it wasn't foul play...but sad regardless of what it was.

Gene was definitely one of the greats from the back side of the golden era. They don’t make em like him anymore.
Tons of movies have been listed but I haven’t yet heard one of my favorites. Woody Allen’s Another Woman from 1988. Good stuff.

The local gas provider, the New Mexico Gas Co, was involved in the investigation alongside the Santa Fe county sheriff’s department, Associated Press reported, raising speculation that carbon monoxide poisoning lay behind the deaths. The emergence later on Thursday of a search warrant, however, cast doubts about a possible gas leak and raised alternative questions about the discovery of prescription pills near Arakawa’s body.

Supposedly he was a Royal Terror on that movie. Weirdly it makes me respect his acting more. The stories make it obvious he didn't really have much faith in the movie. Often that leads to not the best performance.

If that's the case then why would she only poison one of the dogs and leave the other two alive? Also, prescription pills being around the house is hardly surprising seeing as he was 95 years old and obviously not in the best of health.

Here's my theory, and I don't mean to disrespect Mr. Hackman or his wife. I think he died (95yrs old) naturally and she was so distraught that she OD'd and one of the dogs got into the pills too. Just my guess.

If it was a suicide, that's a very sad ending for an amazing life.

Just a wild guess based on the limited info in the press, dog dies of starvation, Hackman of age/illness and wife an OD caused by the loss of her husband. Just seems to fit the info.

Truly one of the finest actors ... ever! RIP indeed.

The cause of death is always neglect and fond memories.
