can you grow your own tobacco in Australia?

In Ukraine our tobacco prices have soared 40 times in the past 8 years so a lot of people started growing (and selling) their own tobacco which in my opinion usually tastes like a lower end captain black but is in fact 10 times cheaper
Hi there, I'm not sure whether we can grow our own tobacco. I've not heard of anyone doing it here in Oz and, knowing our government attitudes toward all things tobacco-related I assume it would be illegal down here? Thanks for your post!

Howdy & welcome from Korea.
AUS$130 for a tin of tobacco! God damn! That's incredible! more than US$80.
crazy, isn't it. And, as far as I can tell, these outrageous prices will only continue to increase over time. I think it's certainly had an affect on tobacco-smoking take-up rates among the younger generations, so I appreciate that for sure. But, I do believe that a well-informed adult should be able to participate in an activity like pipe smoking if they so choose it, without government interference. Anyhow, hope you have a great week!

All new members from Oz are required to post a pic of crocs in their back yard, a kangaroo standing by their front door, or a fit, smiling girl holding a bottle of XXXX Gold.

Any of the three will do.

It's one of Kevin's new rules.
Thanks for the heads-up on protocol!! The most dangerous animal in my back yard is a 6.5kg lap dog called Winston!! Haha, sorry to disappoint!! Thanks for the welcome and look forward to seeing you around the forums.

A new pipe smoker from Australia? You must be a millionaire!

I have many fond memories of a trip to Australia several years ago. Welcome to the forum!
Thanks so much for your warm welcome! Ah yes, the cost of tobacco here in Oz... Truly astounding isn't it? Nonetheless, I forge ahead and pick up a tin when I can afford to do so and, in between purchases, I drool over US sites like smokingPipes.com where there is such an incredible abundance of fine quality pipe tobacco at unbelievably affordable prices!! See you in the forums!

Welcome from Durham in the UK
Thanks Sgetz! Nice to meet you. My father is from the UK, so I have a UK passport. I've only visited 3 times all for short stays, but I do love the mother country! Thanks again for your warm welcome and I'll see you in the forums!

Welcome from Edinburgh Scotland
Hey Bob, thanks so much for your welcome! I have been to the UK several times, but, to my shame, have never ventured as far up north as beautiful Scotland! Nevertheless, it is definitely on my to-do list. But, for now, I look forward to seeing you in the forums. Thanks again.

Yes it is carzy.
And I fully agree with you that as an adult, I should be able to participate in an activity, such as smoking, without the damn government, or anybody else, for that matter, interfering.

Saying that. Happy smoking! puffy

Welcome from Sunny soggy Tasmania...

Yeap, our prices for tobacco suck big time,

I try to get a few tins (mainly Peterson Gold Blend) at a time when I can afford it.

Cheers
