I absolutely love Gawith Hoggarth Twists, I mean all of them. I am familiar with the Extra Sweet Brown Bogie twist but have yet to find or try the pigtail version. I am hoping it is similar but im sure the wrapper may have a bigger influence on overall flavor, not that it would be a bad thing. I enjoyed reading your take on this tobacco and would truly lament if the style of GH twists disappeared one day. I think humanity would forget how good strong tobacco might taste.

Thanks for this detailed review. I was just about to order some Irish black. But hasitated cause I'm not big virginia fan. Seam like this pressed and steamed one is diferent. Look like the only way to find out is to order some.

I say go for it! The Gawith ropes and twists aren't anything like what you'd typically associate with a Virginia blend. No grass, hay, or citrus flavors, they're dark and strong more like Burley and dark fired Kentucky. The Black Irish X tastes strangely like grilled meat to me, so I prefer the brown twists, but a lot of people really dig that charred meat flavor the black twists have so give it a try if that sounds good! puffy

Yeah, if you get some black rope, you're not going to be thinking what a delicious Virginia. It's great tobacco and one of my favorites but it more like what Skippy says. I notice the charred meat taste and I believe that comes from the olive oil used in the preparation. To me, one of GH best.

Yup.

The coils are slathered with olive oil, then compressed and "cooked" for hours:

Today arrived, brown twist and black irish x
The black one would be nice if the oil was'nt rancid. The meaty taste is there I even like it, but that oil is ruining the whole experience. The brown twist from the other hand is fantastic. Must say, the first virginia I like. Thanks for recommending it.

Black twist is a love it or hate it flavor, like licorice, olives, coriander, etc.

Looks like you're a hater. lol

I do know what taste is when you cook with, but with tobacco?! This is the first time. that rancid taste is unmistakable, hard to believe the tobacco made that. But on the end maybe could.
