I second the need to revisit Gaslight. Gaslight was one if my first attempts at English/Latakia when I first started. I didn't enjoy it at all and didn't understand the high reviews.
I set it aside, smoked a few lighter englishes, then when I went back to it used a smaller bowl. Lots of flavor and very enjoyable. I have yet to try my Charring Cross and Chelsea Morning, but have high hopes for both.

And @sable, since Fillmore has a touch of Latakia, does that tobacco come through when you smoke it as well?
I smoked it in my VaPer only pipe (mostly broken in with Escudo) and was surprised. I'll try again, but think I'll let it sit for couple months to mellow.

I am smoking a tin of 2006 Picadilly for my morning commute. It is very good. Lombard is another I enjoy. Don’t discount Montgomery either..see a pattern? Cairo is a favorite along with Telegraph Hill. Since the demise of McClelland, have focused on GLPease blends.

GLP blends are in my opinion at the top of the pack.
Which blends do I love ? It's easier to list the ones I don't like:
JKP

Triple Play

Haddo's

Gaslight (still hoping this one will come around for me)

Any of his blends with dark fired Kentucky as I just don't like it in a blend.
Best blends:
a) Discontinued, hard-to-find blends : Renaisance, Bohemian Sandel, Raven Wing, Mephisto
b) Available blends : Mostly all his English and Blakan blends, Lagonda at the top, Abington, Westminister, Charing Cross, Blackpoint, Key Largo, Fillmore, Union Square, Reagents Flake (just plain wonderful)along with Embarcadero, Quiet Nights, Pickadilly (nice change-up)
My only wish is that all GLP blends (and others as well) were in flake form or plugs as I really dislike any fine cuts like ribbon and shag. They burn differenty and effect the taste dramatically IMO. In fact as of late I am starting to press any GLP blends that are not flaked or plugged. I've devised a simple hydraulic press set-up and then store them away.

I've had Fillmore, Union Square, and Westminster. Union Square and Westminster are stellar, Fillmore was not to my liking. I just ordered some Quiet Nights, Chelsea Morning and Embarcadero.

None of these are straight Virginias but Temple Bar, Chelsea Morning, Quiet Nights and if you enjoy a bit of cigar leaf, Key Largo.
IME, Pease Blends usually benefit from having the tin opened and then sitting for about a week (with the lid on, of course). Most cellar well, too.

Sixpence was the first GLP I tried and it quickly got me on the dark fired train. I always thought it kind of lost flavor around mid-bowl though.

Montgomery and Cumberland are both enjoyable to me, and even a tin of Embarcadero was smoked through quickly.
Union Square is something I've recently bought a few more tins of, a very solid straight Virginia Flake.
I've got some Cairo on order at the local b&m..

Good idea, Kola.
Pressing the newer fine ribbon cut GLP blends may help with the flavour. I've been going through a few of the newer blends last couple weeks to see how they compare to the older stuff. As Uncleblackie and yourself stated, the there's a dramatic difference. I used to bitch about the big chunky pieces of tobacco in the older tins but not anymore. Not sure if it's the fine cut or a different source of leaf, but's it's a very noticeable difference in taste. At least to my palate, anyway.

It's a tiny amount. So while it does affect the flavor, unless you're looking for it, you're not likely to taste it distinctly as Latakia. It's a bit like Chenet's Cake in that way, a tiny amount of Latakia that doesn't get mentioned, but you can taste it in the finish.

Union Square, Telegraph Hill and Navigator are the GLP blends I smoke and cellar the most of. I am ashamed to say I have not tried Fillmore as the latakia has scared me away. I need to rectify that oversight.

Sixpence, JKP, TP & Key Largo -- these are the GLP blends I like most. Union Square is very nice, too. I should obtain some more. Also I should mention Stonehenge Flake; once I get passed the initial char the VA-Bur is very soothing.

Temple Bar, Cairo, Barbary Coast, Charing Cross, and Haddos Delight.
Virginia Cream didn't impress. Gaslight is awesome just not Charing Cross Spectacular.

Currently Stonehenge and Union Square are at the top of my list. Union Square I prefer with a year or two of age, where as Stonehenge works for me with or without time to age. :puffy:

For those unknowing, Greg's Temple Bar and Regents Flake are the same blend, just one in flake (moreso a broken flake IMO), the other in plug. Correct me if I'm wrong.
The blends are similar, but not the same. The Temple bar has perique.......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3AKNF-K42E
Westminster is my all time favorite blend from GLP.............. Wonderful stuff!............. :puffy:
