Hey there,

I am looking for a non aromatic, non Latakia tobacco to try that has a full body. I'd like something that has a "chewy" feel to the smoke. I have tried some blends with Dark-Fired Kentucky in it, like C&D Burley #5 which is pretty close to what I am after. Any recommendations to try next that give that thick feeling smoke?

Thanks!

I enjoy Germain's Rich Dark Flake or Gawith & Hoggarth Dark Flake/Plug (or their ropes) for the strong and dark. Amphora burley is good for a more budget/available solution.

La Brumeuse from Tabac Manil also has a nice nutty and cigar-like darkness to it if you want something that's quite a bit "different".

as @Brewfan mentions, HH ODF has it, so does HH Bold Kentucky if you want something a bit more forceful.

Orlik's Dark Strong Kentucky or Peter Heinrich's Dark Strong (very similar blends) both mix that dark fired with virginia tobacco for a slightly lighter smoke. I'm sure people will recommend C&D Pegasus too but I have yet to sample much of the C&D tobacco.

C&D Burley Flake series. I like #2.
Old Joe Krantz Blue
Pegasus
Granger of course… mild nicotine but creamy. My everyday.

I also enjoy the bass notes. Some depth.

Please note that my selections are non-Latakia or Dark Fired or Perique. Hence my preference for Burley Flake #2. Basically I enjoy Burley or Burley with some VA.

On edit: Let me add Crooner to my list. A bit more nicotine and quite a unique burley. Deer tongue is the only addition. I do enjoy this blend.

Lots of suggestions for Irish Flake. I have a half tin I should open, but I really wrestle with those thicker, leathery flakes. I can't seem to keep them lit.
i rub it out, let it dry and dont have any problems. i like the thin ribbons for consistency when its like that it makes packing easier. havent tried to fold and stuff it yet, i smoke it out of a small chamber because of its strength so thats probably why.
