I was at a Pipe Show at The Briary, and I met this young gentleman of a foreign descent, maybe Italian or something. This was before I had ever started growing tobacco, and we talked for a while about blending. He was very excited about a blend that he had made, and offered me some. I admit, I was having a hard time understanding what he was saying, and I was too polite to keep asking "what," "can you repeat that," etc... I just agreed, and immediately I became regretful, as he pulled out an Altoid tin and proceeded to load my pipe, ha ha.
I lit the pipe, and tried to keep a polite appearance at this strong mint taste overcame me.
I nodded to the gentleman, tried my best not to smile, thanked him, and walked slowly, discretely over tot he potted plant and emptied my pipe. As I was walking away from him, eyes watering, I started wrenching like a cat trying to dispel some fuzz in the back of my throat. I made it to the line to the bathroom, with my eyes feeling swollen, not sure what I was going to do in the restroom, maybe lick the floor to get the taste out of my mouth, but the guy in front of me laughed and said, did you try that guy's minty tobacco?
I have never liked menthol cigarettes, nor Altoid mints, nor those foil wrapped mints they used to have in middle class restaurants in the 80's. I do like mint tea, and I like mint and garlic on lamb or venison... but the line where my mint tolerance is drawn in the sand is drawn close to me and distinctly.
You guys enjoy!
