Throwing my hat in the ring! I've got a couple cobs as well as a little briar made by Jim Ratliff of American Heritage Pipe, it looks a lot like this one:

Not a fan of Aros, but I've enjoyed the blending tobaccos. Perique and Izmir Turkish have been my favorite blenders, and the Brown Bogie from GW has been my favorite blend!

Ok so... Finally read through the whooooole thread.
First, shaintiques is awesome.
Second, this whole forum is awesome.
Third, here's some more about me and my pipings:
Like many here, I fell in love with the smell of tobacco when I was a kid, my grandfather smoked cigars all the time and I always wanted to try them. Finally, about a year ago, I lit up my first cigar and fell in love instantly. Since then I have gone a little old school; bartering my handmade glass and steel goods for cigars has helped me build a small, but respectable collection that normally would have busted my budget.
Pipes have long been on my radar, I read about Perique a few years back and was immediately obsessed. After trading for a nice little handmade briar, I ordered some pipe tobacco online and have been enjoying several bowls almost every day since. I ordered a couple of blends and several blenders, in order to best learn what I like. My favorite tobaccos so far are all of the tobaccos, except Billy Budd and the aros*. Izmir Turkish from C&D, McC Perique Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader, all well loved. As for pipes, I drool every time I see a Peterson 999 or Jekyll & Hyde. Most Petersons, really.
(Before you get worried about my carelessness with the briar: I also ordered a pair of Cobs and have been abusing those, while carefully coddling the Jim Ratliff. [Similar pipe linked to above.])
On November 30th I will be moving to Minneapolis with my long-time girlfriend, soon-to-be fiance. She is getting her doctorate at the UMN, mechanical engineering is her major and she got her bachelor's at MIT. (Waaaaaay out of mt league. Definitely bragging.) I plan on enjoying a bowl or two most nights, sitting on the porch whether the sun is shining or the streets are buried under the standard Minnesota glaciers.
If picked for the FPP, I promise to never, ever post a photo of myself enjoying my package.

Greenhorn pipe smoker here. At the ripe old age of 63, it humbles me to say that I know little to nothing about the joys of pipe smoking. I could tell you a few things about fine imported cigars, but nada about pipes and tobacco.
My interest in pipe smoking goes back to my youth when I was a Boy Scout. At our two week long summer camps, many of the 20-something counselors smoked pipes. The sweet aroma of black cherry smoke still lingers in my memory from those days back during the 1960s. I did make Eagle Scout, btw.
As a way of reminiscing those summer days in northern Minnesota, I dug old an old clay pipe that I had and have smoked a few bowls of Paladin Black Cherry....which I found quite distasteful. So, you can see I have a lot to learn about pipes and tobacco. I always say, "You're never too old to learn."
The free pipe project is a super way of "paying it forward." My way of paying it forward is escorting our WW2 veterans in my Willys M38A1 Army jeep in parades all over northern Minnesota. We lose 500 to 600 WW2 veterans everyday. I love these sweet old men.

@cabinfever,that is great and welcome aboard. Those pix remind me of the 80's when I was stationd in Germany, I drove the old M151A1 jeeps, not quite the Willy's made but same concept
Yes that is awesome Cabinfever. i will add you to the list. There are a few good cherry blends out there. Try MacBaren 7 seas red and Hobbits weed. Both are pretty good. Then there is Devil's Holiday, it is a good berry blend. I'm hoping to have a few pipes ready soon. I'll keep you posted when they are finished.
Great photos Cabinfever, my grandfather was a WW2 veteran. He passed away when I was in high school, it was long time ago. RIP Grandpa!

@jvnshr, my Dad was a WW2 vet. He was part of a Higgins boat (landing craft) crew that delivered Marines to the island beachheads in the Pacific.
@pagan, thank you for serving our country. Many of the M151s were destroyed by the gubbermint for a couple reasons. First, they didn't meet civilian safety requirements, and second, they did not meet air pollution standards. Of course, Uncle Sam didn't concern himself with those issues when he surplussed out old jeeps. You could say that Uncle Sam wasn't so PC back in the early days. With that said, many M151s where "snuck" out before being destroyed and some were welded back together.

@cabinfeaver, one of the worst experiences in my Army career was the day we convoyed our M151's to the Depot at Minz, turned them in and drew new HUMMVE's rates right up there with the day we turned in the 1911's for the Beretta POS 9mm.
