Where exactly did SP "super hype" it? It was advertised as a limited release with a list of what tobaccos are in it. Pretty much a matter of fact ad. Hype is perceived because it's a limited release?
It was all over the social medias. I might even suggest more than other recent releases by folks with sample tins well ahead of the release.

C&D made three posts since January 4th. I do not think it is C&D's fault that everyone wanted this one really bad.
They get in a very rare tobacco in a limited quantity, Jeremy works his magic, and everyone lines up to throw money at it.
They are merely 100% at fault for being damn great at what they do. The overhype came from us.

I have missed out on blends also. I'm sorry you guys are going through this, but... come on. 6 pages?

As I mentioned, they sent out sample tins ahead of release to folks who pushed it leading up to release.

Sutliff did that also. Actually, they all do this when releasing a new blend.
Are you really looking for someone to shake a finger at?

I think that this forum allowing you guys to vent on STG like spoiled toddlers has warped you guys.

C&D made a work of art, we all bought it out. We should be applauding C&D, not looking to blame someone because you didn't get any.

I don't smoke orientals. I'm just a mere observer. People were discussing the hype, others said there was no hype, I'm replying that there was a pretty good amount of hype that I saw from social media personalities who were posting pretty hard on it.

I'm sorry if that's challenging to comprehend. I don't know how else to convey. I had no interest in this blend.

I did something I've not done prior to this release: I called SmokingPipes on the TELEPHONE last night. Of course, I got to leave a voicemail after a few brief minutes on hold, so I chalked it up to not getting any.

And then, they called back! I snagged 3 tins, and they also added in the rest of the stuff that I had loaded into my cart ahead of the 6PM ET release. All in all, it was a 4 minute phone call, and I'll have my stuff on Tuesday.

But still... with the Sutliff/MacBaren demise, the fewer blenders that remain will need to step up their act in order to cater to the pipers who still want to buy quality tobacco, and that includes not just the blends themselves, but the sales and supply apparatus to get the tobacco into our hands. I hope SP is learning from this and making plans to bulk up their webservers.

Somehow I missed the "hype" completely, as I didn't know this blend was coming.
When I saw the email and read the ingredients, I was interested.
I had the same issues as everyone else and got shuffled off to the "waiting room". That was new for me. In the past, I've always kept hitting refresh but didn't try it this time, per their statement not too.
So, I didn't get any.
Steamworks is the best blend I've tasted in some time. If it's that good I might be disappointed. Or I'll have a recommendation for my Secret Santa next year.........

What I hope doesn't happen is that C&D focuses more on limited releases and less on replacing important blends left by Sutliff. I have yet to purchase a limited release that is so good that I want to reorder it. But there are plenty of mainstay blends I do reorder - let's hope the focus is more on keeping expanding existing ready to ship tobacco products.

Can you clarify what you mean by this? What makes you think that C&D intends to replace (or would even be allowed to replace) Sutliff blends? Do you mean they should step up to fill the void left by Sutliff as a sluppier of blending components?

Both. While C&D won't have the machinery Sutliff had, they can in fact create some versions of match blends that many of us came to love. Could they create a War Horse Blend or a White Knight Blend? Maybe. Certainly, they can try to create some blending tobaccos necessary for him and B&M blenders. But if they are distracted with creating these limited releases, that will be less energy to try and service a part of the market that will now be underserved. But, that is up to them. Just my own 2 cents.

It's an interesting thought. Matching a blend takes a specific skill set that few possess. Carl McAllister had that skill in spades. It's not that common.

I don't do social media other than a few BBs, so I wouldn't have seen what you are referring to. My point is that the same tired old complaint of "over-hyped" is brought up any time there is a limited/special release which causes it to go fast. The "super hype" is not from the manufacturer. Obviously product announcements and advertising is part and parcel to anything sold. The manufacturer has no control of "Hype" from social media and word of mouth. The fact that it's there is good business, is it not? Again, limited/special release is what it is and we are all familiar with it. Why do so many people feel the need to beat the dead horse about it time and time again (rhetorical)? I understand the complaints about the website, however that too should be expected.
