How can a company, knowing that a special release is anticipated, not limit customers to 2 or 3 tins max? SP MAJORLY dropped the ball on this one!
The majority of their customers aren't the smoke one tin of a blend per year variety. Most of their special releases are gone within the first hour. The best way to keep a blend like that available is to keep it as quiet on forums as possible. More non members read these pages than members.

I'm kinda curious to see if any will pop up on the resale market, and for how much. It was similarly happening with Analogue's releases. They would have a new drop, sell out quickly, then you'd go on eBay to find numerous listings asking twice the price.

It will be listed on tinbids in a week.............. I don't know what price, but look at all the 2024 Cringle Flake on there.......

See, what Cringle release was it, last year, or perhaps '22, there were still tins sitting at online retailers for quite a time after it released. This year it was gobbled straight up and now on the secondary market.

Maybe because…
  • They don’t want to piss off their largest customers
  • They make more $ per tin on multi-tin sales
  • They want to sell it all
Limiting it to 2 or 3 tins, they will sell it all and more people will get the chance to try it. I have no problem with them making money. My guess is, though, their largest customers are resellers trying to flip it.

Either way, doesn't matter...probably the last time I personally try to get a special release. I'll stick with my always available blends.

Jeebus that went quick. I was going to pick up a tin of Firebird Flake tomorrow when I got paid, but apparently all 5,000 tins sold within the first 2 hours. FOMO fever sure has been in full swing in the pipe tobacco world ever since the shuttering of Mac Baren and Sutliff! 😵‍💫

Yeah........ I "tapped out" a few years ago on these special releases. The hype is what drives them, and I don't blame the blenders- It's hard to make a go of tobacco sales any day, but when they can issue one of these, hype it up, and sellout in a few hours............... well, that's just money in the bank.
I don't blame them, I just don't "play" anymore................
I’m with you. It isn’t as if you are going to discover your new go-to tobacco in a limited release blend.

That said, I also sympathize with folks who are really angry about this. I remember being quite petulant when the limited edition Samuel Gawith Squadron Leader with perique sold out before I could buy a tin. Firebird Flake is actually rather more special than that Squadron Leader. I can make Squadron Leader with perique. People who missed Firebird can’t get their hands on the same VA and Oriental leaf in that blend.
