Lemmesee--- Episode VII carry III divided by II equals A New Hope for a better movie. So does that make the new movie episode VIII or episode 0.5?
I haven't seen the new movie yet. I eventually will for free. I liked all six originals, perhaps in some ways episode I, II and II better than the three originals. You know, the ones that came first in time but later in series? Or is that first in series but later in time?
Ahem. And I'm sure I'll like this one too and add it to my movie archive database. As to The Force Awakens, shouldn't that be /Reawakens?/ How many times does Luke have to get his act together. Awakens had its good moments, but Carrie was really weak, sorry girl, she had no business being in there as she was obviously fried and had a hard time talking, and Hans was great, he carried the movie, but I guess he wanted no parts of another franchise so that only leaves Luke and I have limited hopes in his current acting ability.
Too much effort and time was devoted in tying the past to the present. Lucas made out big and my personal opinion is that SW will suffer under Disney, especially with them trying to burn the rope at both ends at once.

Does anyone know if this is all part of the original story or are they just making stuff up now in order to sell tickets?

The story that scrolled up the beginning of A New Hope about spies stealing the Death Star plans is what Rogue One is about.

Edit to add: What the hell are we all doing up talking about Star Wars at 3:00 in the morning on a weekday like a bunch of kids? We better get our butts to bed! We have school in the morning!!!!

I was thinking the same thing last night this morning.

The next film after episode 9 will be the movie about a younger Han Solo. Not sure how I feel about the guy portraying him though. I think they could have done a better job finding someone a closer resembling to a young Harrison Ford
I agree. However, I am really looking forward to Donald Glover as a young Lando ... Glover is in incredibly talented young man in many ways, including a great acting ability.

haha I'd do it again if I didn't have to work in the morning. About the "kids" comment though... I totally mean that lol. Because, these new Star Wars movies are really taking me back to when I was a kid, talking about Star Wars, playing Star Wars, collecting the toys, building the models. It makes me feel like a kid again, and it's kind of awesome :D I have a friend who has started collecting and building Star Wars Legos again. I'm thinking about building models and maybe even collecting some of the toys again. It's a great time to be a Star Wars fan and an even better time to be an original Star Wars fan. It's just fun!

Toob, did you really think I, II and III were better? Really?? I'm a die hard IV, V and VI fan which means that I, II and III were barely watchable.
As for the Force Awakens, in my opinion it was a money grab and a crappy version of IV.
I agree with Duane that Rogue One is actually 3.5. Very much worth the watch and it filled in some gaps. It is definitely a keeper.
So in review..... I, II, III and The Force Awakens should have been left on the cutting room floor.

I've bought every TIE fighter in the Star Wars Black collection as well as the Death Star. I've also bought all of the Hot Wheels Star Wars ships from the past two movies for my son when he is big enough to play with them..........and to keep him out of my Black collection ships.

I originally started buying them to have an evolution of the Tie Fighter from the Sith Infiltrator up to the TIE Interceptor, but then thought about how my boy might enjoy the ships when he gets older.

I recently watched a great documentary "The Plastic Galaxy" on Amazon or Netflix.
It's the story of the Kenner, pretty much an also ran in the toy companies line up that happened to be the ones that were the only ones available to deliver the toys when Star Wars wanted them. Everyone else was too busy.

I loved Rogue Force One. Incredible to see it in the theatre. Some of those sequences were fantastic. Loved the Vader scenes, imo this movie gave Vader his balls back after the tragedies that were I II and III. Though good or bad we are getting a Star Wars movie every year, it's a great time to be a fan. Kids don't know how good they've got it!

Don't understand why some people didn't like those movies. They had to develop the character and I thought they did a great job. In some ways, they were my favorite of the entire franchise!

Most people considered Anakin to be a bit of a cry baby. The anger he felt about his mother's death/etc. could have been directed better. But I also blame the actor Hayden Christensen.

Most people considered Anakin to be a bit of a cry baby.

But, it fit perfectly as a brat with enough brattiness to turn into the evil Darth Vader. I also enjoyed Jar jar, as they needed something to make it all a little lighter, plus he was perfect for showing how the force works with "letting go" and showing that side of things.

I think that the initial outrage at Jar Jar was because he seemed to embody a lot of racial stereotypes.

But, I would rather have seen Disney stay out of the series and turn it into a more adult oriented series. Let the series grow up with us. There is enough pandering to children in society as it is. We need more stuff that excludes kids. :puffy:

I can certainly see that. I thought there could have been better actors for the role.

Rogue One was good. It was an interesting departure from the other films.
It seemed the film was used to compensate for the lack of human multiculturalism in the previous episodes, to me. This was neither good nor bad, and I love Donnie Yen.
I was bothered by Andor killing that injured guy. Realistic in ways these films aren't usually realistic.
Great character development and a perfect ending that blends this right into the current Star Wars Universe.
I will start to have issues with this franchise later when they don't follow at all the books about Admiral Thrawn, or Mara Jade Skywalker. It is departure enough for me that they have eradicated Han and Leia's real kids from the books to make a new bad vaderesque figure.
I love these films because IV, V, and VI are in my soul. After I, II, and III it is no longer a blind love, and I will find fault where I may.
Defending Jar Jar Binks is a new one to me. Only on PMF... lol
