I just did a little thread searching, and found one where Russ O. says the Decatur pipes were made in a French factory from stummels from the '70s. Don't know if that helps at all.
EDIT: BTW, it is one of those pipes that when I get around to smoking it, I always wonder why I don't smoke it more often, if that makes any sense.

I can never remember John. Are you a member of the Patriarchy, or are you Against the Patriarchy? We need to have name tags around this damned place.

We have a patriarchy? There's organization here?
This might make a good locker pipe for work.

Problem is, I need another pipe like I need another hole in my ass. Probably why that Decatur doesn't get smoked often enough.

Isn't that the damned truth. I'm at 20 904/9004s, and eyeballing another one.

Since the word engineering applied in this context offends a professional group that has special aptitudes, training, and expertise, I'd like to respect that specificity of language. Yeah, I'm being fussy here, but it could be correctly said that these factory pipes are precisely crafted and carefully designed, and that might make the point without making it sound like calculus and technological principles were applied to the making of these pipes. I spent part of my career in writing up research science in plain language, so the scientists didn't throw up and lay people could comprehend it. It was good "sport," and I enjoyed doing it, when it came off well.

MSO, the "proof" I stumbled across can be considered tongue-in-cheek, at best. I just thought it a humorous coincidence with the knock-down boot-and-fist that the recent engineering thread devolved into.

The Crown pipe, right middle, looks like it could be made by Barraccini (PG.14). Check out the black decorative feature on the rim of the Barraccini and compare.

The chains, knives and baseball bats are reserved for packing method threads.

I wish I knew.... I think I am of an age to be patriarchal, and I have some of the traits that I associate with the "good" sort of patriarch, but then I'd like to know if it's a good thing, or something I should be ashamed of.
And then there was the sound of ...... Crickets.

Ahhh..."designed by engineers!" You mean like those who design car engines that must be removed to change the spark plugs?
Just kidding some of my friends who smoke the briar and play with CAD programs.... :puffy:

Ain't that the truth. Can't allow anyone to do their own auto maintenance anymore.

Come on guys! They have to sell the pipes made by the apprentices and the apprentices to the apprentices somewhere. Why not just slap a name on them and sell them for $39?

If you want to buy a properly engineered Crown pipe then purchasing a Winslow Crown is the way to go. For less than 100.00 you will get a quality product.
