For a while there were quite a few rave notices about Molto Dolce from Forums members. Some really liked the sweetness, once they figured out how to keep it burning. Not my thing, but so what? It was a big treat for some.

While I like Sutliff Molto Dolce on its own, as someone with a terrible sweet tooth I found it's a nice way to sweeten up a blend I find a bit blah. Adds a great touch of sweetness to a monotone VA or Burley blend. I also don't seem to have any problem with the burn of Molto Dolce. It's sort of fun in an odd way to hear the stuff sizzle, snap, crackle, & pop - kind of like pipe tobacco Rice Krispies!!!

I'm always happy to read when someone doesn't care for a blend I like - more for me! Variations of personal taste are just another thing I enjoy about smoking a pipe.

It's best IMO smoked sopping wet in a dedicated pipe
That's good to hear, I bought a tin to try a few months back after reading all of the hype and now I'll be really curious to try it. You shouldn't need to dry something for 12 hours, not a flavored tobacco, otherwise, I don't think you are getting what you paid for. It has all evaporated away.
However it turns out, like others, I will probably not smoke a lot of it straight but blend it with other things. I've tried a number of Sutliff blends and a couple of the better ones to me have been Voodoo Queen (more of an english type) and Run Raisin (a mild aro).

Haven't tried MD, but finally found a C&D blend that sucks. Constellation, bites like a mother. Great flavor, just not worth the bite.

Okay, I'm hearing too much noise about it, just ordered a tin.

After hearing all those ads on the Podcast, I bought a tin to try....wettest tobacco I've EVER bought, I'll bet I could have literally squeezed liquid out of the tin, had I pressed down hard. As I don't have the patience for a week long dry out, I only left it out for two hours. It sure did smell good, like a candy store, the wife LOVED the scent. It tasted like sweetened air...no tobacco flavor at all. However....if I were single!

All of you Molto Dolce lovers:

If you smoke it wet how do you keep it lit or do you just don't mind relighting it a lot?

Is there some other secret to smoking this stuff?

Sutliff makes blends for so many labels that the bashers love to love.
I've heard this before and always wanted to ask which blends those might be.
Can anyone list a Sutliff blend that might make my top 10? Thanks! :puffy:

My Molto Dolce just arrived. Very, very wet, and smells Like cake batter. Going to let the tin sit out open for a few hours, and try it out in a cob.

I tried it once and let it sit out for two days and it was still sopping wet. I don't know why anyone would make a tobacco like that.

After a little over an hour, I have it burning in a Weber Deep Grain zulu, and have to say, not bad. It is purely a flavored tobacco with little actual tobacco flavor, so I would class this as a dessert smoke. Packed light, and judicious use of a tamper are necessary, but has a nice flavor and stays lit well regardless of the moisture. I'm going to buy a couple more tins as I do prefer aros in the winter.

I'm referring to the blends they create for other labels, and those I can't divulge. I could tell you, but I'd have to kill you.
Sutliff mainly puts out aros under its own label, and if one doesn't like aros, one won't like Sutliff. But crapping a company for producing a genre of tobacco blends because one doesn't like that genre is pointless. Others do like aros and sales of aros account for about 90% of all tobacco sales. You can bitch and whine all you like, and Sutliff is laughing all the way to the bank. They produce what their market wants.
Smoke what you like, like what you smoke, don't shit on others because they like something that makes you gag. Something that you, or I, do like probably makes them gag.

Some of the humor on Forums is based on blasting particular blends, but I have to admit valuing posts that tell about what people like, and why, especially if the blend is readily available. chaisingembers is intrepid in trying and finding things to like about blends dissed by others -- Mixture 79, now Molte Dolce, and others. As Russ O. has pointed out, and sable' reminds us, aromatics carry the market and make it possible for retailers to carry the non-aromatics some of us love. So the aromatic buyers are bankrolling the rest of us to some extent. I don't know if there would be a revenue stream to bring me Semois and C&D Billy Budd if it weren't for all the apricot, caramel, licorice and whiskey flavored blends. Maybe not. Or "my stuff" would cost a lot more.

Duane ... I think you were just called a tobacco whore.

Fair enough. I wasn't "crapping" on anything, by the way, only looking for actual suggestions.

Chasing and Yaddy did actually offer up two suggestions and I'd have to say no to both ... thanks though!
