Duane ... I think you were just called a tobacco whore.
Almost!
In twenty-five years the only tobaccos I've not really cared for have been Paladin's Black Cherry, Penzance, and Stonehaven.

LOL ... I've tossed out and given away more tobacco blends than I can count.
I'm just as particular with my coffees and beers as well ... no Folgers/Maxwells, no Bud/Miller, etc.

Fair enough. I wasn't "crapping" on anything, by the way, only looking for actual suggestions.

Chasing and Yaddy did actually offer up two suggestions and I'd have to say no to both ... thanks though!
Hi Cob, I wasn't referring to you personally. That's why I switched to 3rd person in part of my response.
There are others here who like to take ad hominem dumps on Sutliff, or on aros. I'm not much of an aro smoker myself. But that doesn't give me license to disparage aros as a genre. MSO makes a very good point. Were it not for the aro market, this niche market would be tiny and prices would be much higher.
Germain's Balkan Sobraine...that's another matter. :puffy:

Okay, I'll bite. What's Black Mamba?
That's a blend that I've made and shared with forum members for the past few years. It's got a good deal of Latakia and Red FCV with a fairly healthy dose of Perique and a touch of unflavored Green River Burley Cavendish. However, since my foray into whole-leaf tobacco, I haven't made anything with store bought blending tobaccos. This same blend as a pressed flake would be pretty good though and I may just give it a whirl. First, I still need to perfect my "Revor Match." :)

Not casting aspersions on chasingembers. It takes a nimble taste to jump from Black Frigate to Mixture 79, in my opinion, and a truly open mind. Part of pipe smoking is mindset, and he seems to have a good one, highly original, up to a challenge.

No offense taken at all, I'm a very eclectic smoker. I like to have a huge variety of tobacco to suit whatever I am in the mood for, but the blends I love the most are straight Virginias and Oriental heavy blends. I give Esoterica a lot of grief, but only because I find Penzance and Stonehaven a little flat on the palate.

Their #5 blend is not bad. They used to send a case of tins to our pipe club every month and nobody wanted them. Just sayin' 8)

I've taken their online tobacco preference quiz several times and it always comes up recommending blend #5. Probably should try it. I liked their Westminster (not the GLP version) another English, now discontinued I think. I have two tins of it unopened, from pipe show goody bags; the Lat may be gone by now, but I suspect I can boost it with blending tobacco.
