I have gravitated over the years to prefer 9mm filter pipes. I understand that I am in the minority but I have tested both extensively. Anyone else here enjoy filter pipes and if so, what is your favorite. I have a meerchaum and Vauen that are my current favorites.
I like filtered pipes, 6mm and 9mm. I prefer the balsa filters for both. About half of my pipes use filters and I tend to smoke the filters ones more often.

I'm using a 9mm filter unless I absolutely can't. For whatever reason I just get bad reactions to a lot of tobacco, the filters negate a lot of that. Currently I've got a lot of Vauens I love, especially a large Olaf 1811 and a nosewarmer Cut 3152. They just make really solid pipes that never seem to have any issues.

Because of my crippling 9mm addiction I'm constantly checking SmokingPipes.eu for rare 9mm pipes. My dream non-custom pipe is a Peterson Ebony Spigot 107 fitted for 9mm. I've got an unfiltered one, I'm half-tempted to see if it's possible to retroactively drill it for a 9mm but I'm hesitant to ruin a $170 pipe.

I used filter when I just started to smoke pipe. But I found it it easily get wet, and hard to draw, maybe because of the weather here. Now I don't use filter anymore.

I have a 9MM Peterson Ebony Spigot 107 that I found at smokingpipes.com. It had some damage at the sterling spigot but it smokes wonderfully. Wish I new how to fix sterling though. Visually it bothers me a little.

There’s a group of non-filter smokers who love to opine this and constantly tell us we are doing it wrong (even when that wasn’t even the question).

I like 6mm and everything I have takes them. I have never tried 9mm but I like that 6mm gives more options on thin shanks with the 3mm reduced diameter. I do prefer balsa over charcoal but they all have their different goals.

I had an extra 9mm stem made for my amber spigot Peterson but it was pretty expensive because I had to send it to the factory to be fitted.

Thanks. I think I’ve tried them all and will take filter anytime. I wish I didn’t like it so much, I would have so many more choices in pipes and not have to keep filters in stock.

My opinion is, throw away the filters and learn not to smoke wet.

The underlying message coming out of your post is the critical animosity towards the population of the pipe smokers who use a filter, whether that's a 9mm balsa or active charcoal. Ergo: what you're basically saying is those who use a filter, cannot smoke half as well as those who do not. There is absolutely nothing wrong with filters. In some countries, like Germany for example, filtered pipes are pretty common. Just as in the US it's customary to smoke a pipe without a filter.

Never judge a pipe smoker based on whether he smokes a filter or not. Instead, study the motives behind that particular preference.

There is an assumption that filter pipe smokers are idiots, or we just like to be awkward and all we need is to be educated.
There is no understanding that we might have tried both and come to the conclusion through knowledge and experience that filter pipes suit us better.I have tried both non filter pipes and filter pipes using all types of different filters and I have decided that 6&9mm charcoal filters give me personally a better tasting smoke.

Spot on.
Thank your lucky stars that there are people like me on this forum who have good judgement.

Not that you want to listen I expect, so carry on having fun with your toys, if that's what you enjoy.

Whatever...
I like a clean pipe and a clean smoking experience, and I find that filters and balsa inserts help with both of these goals. I don't expect one could ever exclude all moisture from the tobacco no matter how learned a smoker one is. For me, both paper and balsa inserts help to keep the pipe and the smoking experience dryer and less likely to give me a bite. It just works well for me. And I don't care if anyone else doesn't approve. To each his own.
That said - if you're in the States and want to have a little fun purchasing a filter pipe, grab a box of Medico filters and follow the directions on the back to receive a wonderful mail order pipe. I got an excellent smoker for under $30, mailed to my home. A bunch of us on another forum did this and it was a lot of fun. You don't know what you'll receive, buy that's part of the fun! Here's mine:
