My favorites Serenity. Movie made off Firefly the tv show. I also like Valerian: City of a thousand Planets was a good one.

The Lower Forty of Hill Country
Robert Wise's 1951 The Day The Earth Stood Still. Thoughtful science fiction at its best.

Stanley Kubrick's 1968 2001: A Space Odyssey. This one is best seen in a theater.

Peter Hyams' 1984 2010: The Year We Make Contact

Eugene Lourié's 1958 The Colossus of New York. As a child this one actually scared me!

George Pal's 1960 The Time Machine

Joseph Sargent's 1969 Colossus: The Forbin Project

That was The Fog. Completely different story. The Mist is based on a Stephen King Novella. I appreciate the shoutout to Adrienne "Barbells" though!
Oh, yeah...... I've seen the Mist too and it is good.
I guess the thought of Adrienne Barbeau just blocked everything else out.... :ROFLMAO:

On a more obscure level....
Do any of you recall a movie that came out in the sixties called, "The Day of the Triffids?"
It's about space plants that come to life, spread and take over. My dad took me to the theater to see it as a kid and it scared the heck out of me. It's set in Britain.

Hmm…let’s see...

2001
The Fifth Element
Blade Runner
Red Dwarf (have to include this!)
Dark Star - 1974 film. it’s where Dan O’Bannon got the idea for Alien.
Andromeda Strain (1971)
Red Dwarf is fantastic. First 6 seasons are the best of the BBC

There was a 1958 movie titled "It! The Terror From Beyond Space!" that Alien copied almost scene for scene, including how the critter was killed at the end.

Alien was little more than a remake of it with Giger-inspired design.

Speaking of Giger, he was such an unequalled world-class creative nutjob that the Swiss government granted an exception to the condition and appearance of his house and property in an otherwise upscale(ish) neighborhood... (it was basically a horror theme park)

I thought 2049 has the best use of audio in a movie to convey an atmosphere. But it has to be seen in a theater with an adequate sound system. The sounds were deep enough to rumble my belly, which admittedly is not hard to do.

I also liked District 9 and The Brother from Another Planet.
