Wow!
I started this string hoping to get a bit of feed back...

I spent yesterday doing stuff, and didn't have the opportunity to log on.

Figured this would have fallen off the page by this morning...

Boy was I wrong.
Those of you guys that are getting copies of The Cardinal... You're going to enjoy it.

Lawrence:
I read "The Cardinal" years ago and thought the movie did the book justice. Tom Tryon nailed Fr. Fermoyle in that film. And, in a Catholic vein, I also enjoyed reading "The Shoes of the Fisherman" and thought David Jansen was terrific as that film's quasi-narrator as the reporter.
Neither of those guys were particularly good actors but they both rose to the occasion in their respective films.

I'm also a fan of Arthur C. Clarke, Arthur Conan Doyle, C.S. Forester and many another author already mentioned. I'm also glad someone brought up Terry Pratchett. My daughter introduced me to his "Monstrous Regiment" and I have read about a dozen of the "Discworld" stories so far.
By far my favorite author though is Patrick O'Brian. His Aubrey/Maturin books, set during the Napoleonic war are brilliant. The New York Times called them "The best historical novels ever written."

Starting to Get Obsessed
If I had to narrow it down to one it is: Larry MacMurtry
He did the "Lonesome Dove" series but I prefer his early works.
I came about him from the film adaptation of: The Last Picture Show and that is still my all-time fav movie.
I always enjoyed E.A. Poe and also prefer US history in the Pre-, During- and Post-Civil War eras. It IS good to know where you come from and the tumultuous path our young nation has traveled, thus far.
