Cheers.

Awesome. There's a lot more to Foghat then Slow Ride huh??? How bout some April Wine, Uriah Heep, Mahogany Rush, Bad Finger, Montrose, Little Feet, The Doobie Brother(70's), Johnny and Edger Winters, Steve Miller, Rick Derringer, Thin Lizzy, oh and who could forget Free and Bad Compamny. I could do this all night. I put my life on hold to be a rock star. Played in a band most of my adult life. I miss the stage man.. Nothing like it!!! Nothing like rock and roll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This has been a great thread.

But, being a classically trained pianist, my absolute favorites are a departure from those posted thus far.

This is performed by Felicia He at the 2010 NJMTA competition (age 7)

Of the several performances on Youtube this is my favorite... seems all the others are either rushed or over expressed.

I played this during one of my Juries.

It sounds simple and it is... but, it is excruciatingly difficult to play correctly.

Now this piece was a commercial success, but not in the modern sense although Felix Mendelssohn was a rock star in his day.

I know some of you will go... there he goes again...

But, I ask you give it a concerted listen.

Hell yea I did. In 91-92. My friend did tats and Al got one on the Psalm 69 tour and so he hung out with us when he came in town. I really only partied with him 2x. He was into the harder stuff and we knew where to get it.lol I was 21-22 back then. He didn't give a crap about us. He barely spoke to us. lol He was busy.... well I'm not going to say because its not my place to, but no needles were involved. I'm so old i remember when Ministry went from a lame ass club bant to Stigmata and The land of Rape and Honey. lol It was almost scary when it hit the scene. They were the pioneers of Dark electronic music. Not enough credit given to them... I hung out with Smashing Pumpkins when they used to open up for my buddies band in columbus in 1990. I was 18 and had no idea they would be big....

@Lawrence - re: Mendelssohn Venetian Boat Song Op. 30 No. 6
hey, i don't mean to be critical or ostentatious in regard to her performance or your post - i am just curious and observant at this time -

i by no means have any ability to appreciate or critique fine music at all !
i just want to know if there is maybe a problem with the quality of the audio or maybe the piano was miss-tuned or if she possibly hit a wrong note or something a time or two ?
maybe it is just me but it sounded like a b flat or something sounded a bit off a couple of times ?

i listened to a few other performances on youtube and i did not hear the same dissonances .
i wholly agree with your contention that Felicia He's interpretation merits favor for being sublimely venerate in comparison to the others .
but what do i know ?
that sort of music - like much of opera - overwhelms my emotions in an overpowering all encompassing cloud of impending doom that is rapidly approaching and i feel like i want to drop a chocolate cookie in my boxer shorts
kind of like the affect i experience from most of the satanic stuff i have heard before
is it supposed to do that ? ( i know some of you are going ... there he goes again ... :nana: )

You are correct there were two mistakes in her performance. However; hers is the most consistent with the actual score. I don't hold those two "mistakes" against her after-all she was only 7 at the time of the competition.

Setting that aside her performance was head-and-sholders above the others... That's a tough piece.

yes - i think she is absolutely amazingly talented !
were the two mistakes the same note ? maybe a b instead of b flat ?

could you tell if it was a hand width span problem ?
aha - i just listened again and i think it was at 2:40 and about 2:54

two times right after the fast notes ( don't know what that is called )
i am just guessing - the first time she hit two notes and the second time she hit the note she should have hit the first time but it should be a different note the second time ?
thanks

Psalms was good, but The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste was the best. And if we're going that route, I'd choose Nihil by KMFDM over all of it.

In Memory of Elizabeth Reed off of the Allman Brothers Fillmore East Album. Thirteen minutes of musical perfection. I remember when it was brand-spankin' new and nothing has come close since (or before). Beethoven, Mozart, et.al. can kiss their grits.

Good call on Op Ivy MLC, I don't think I have gone more than a week in the last 17 years without listening to them.
