I called a brick and mortar mainly by cigar store in New Jersey that I a man often near asking what pipe tobaccos they have any among other brands they said they have a lot of tins of MacBaren. I’m not one to go into a small shop like this, look around and talk a bit, without buying something so I thought to ask about recommended MacBarens in case I didn’t see something that’s on my radar.

Without a doubt for me it's MacBaren's Vanilla Creame both the flake version and the loose cut.

I was eyeing the loose cut version hopefully they have that one... seems like both of those are on many people’s “best vanilla” lists.

The loose cut is less expensive then the flake because you can buy it in bulk. Taste wise their very similar. The flake version, at least to me, burns cooler and has more of a tobacco taste. Of course, being a flake, it will burn longer. I use the fold and stuff method, as recommended by MacBaren. I find that either version smokes best in a briar. Get you and a tin of each and you make the decision. You can't go wrong either way.

My favourites are well represented above:

Anything in the HH line.
Navy Flake
Golden Extra
Symphony
Vanilla Cream

You might also look for well reviewed discontinued blends, like HH Vintage Syrian or Mature Virginia.

ODF is the only one I've tried. Haven't needed to go any further. Good smoke? Yes! Closed minded? Yes!

(I've really got to get out more)

So far, I’ve tried mixture flake, navy flake, and symphony and all three have been excellent. I think MacBaren does lightly topped Burley forward Bur/Va blends about as well as anyone on the market. I also love the convenience of their flakes, as they’re easy burning and pretty much ready to go out of the tin.
