Savinellis are easily my favorite factory brand. I have owned a couple of dozed and never had any problems, at all. I always check the new arrivals at the local tobacconists, and Savs are always problem-free. This can't be said of some other well known factory brands.
But if I have a $200 to spend I'd go for Radice, Il Ceppo, or L'anatra.

Bjarne - Have 4 and they all smoked great from day 1.

Peterson - Only have 1 so far, but eyeing a St. Patrick's day beauty.

Dr. Grabow - My Freehands and Big pipies are regulars in the rotation.

Under $200 (heck, under $100) for me it would have to be:
1. Stanwell

2. Savinelli
3. There is no #3 in my collection. I have a couple Pete's left over after I sold what I had off only because I like the way they look. [/hidesunderchair]

In that price range, I am right with you Daniel. Petes, Savs, Stanwell - for all the same reasons. I think overall, they are equal in quality, but Peterson's just have a look I admire, esp their silverwork.

For me it would have to be:
1. Savinelli

2. Peterson

3. Vauen
Unfortunately, I don't have any Castello, Comoy, Stanwell, GBD, etc. but one of these days I'll get around to owning one of each if not more.

I also buy estate pipes and clean them up.
1. Kaywoodie, the higher grades are great.

2. Bertram, beartiful and great smokers.

3. GBD, hard to beat.
