I associate so called codger blends with those widely available not overly pricey mixures' which have been offered to smokers very long period of times ,and which more than not come in pouches
I'm sorry to say that in the UK, traditional codger blends, while in 50g pouches*, actually cost a bit more than tobaccos available online. Anything Gawith, Orlik, F&T are all cheaper than St Bruno, say.

*Three Nuns, Gold Block only in 40g pouches.

Got me a stash myself. I'm sure some folks took that as a joke, but I was being serious. I love the stuff.
How does it compare to C&D Captain Bob’s Blend? I smoked a bowl of that recently and it was… interesting. All grape Kool-Aid in the tin and nose, and a serious fruitiness came through in the bowl. I’m not saying I didn’t like it, but I am glad I used a clay to smoke it.

Watch City American Cut Plug Mixture is about as close as I get to smoking a “codger” blend. While not a true codger blend, I believe it was created in the style. It’s mistly burley and it’s lightly topped and it’s wonderful any time.

I’ve only tried Sir Walter Raleigh regular and Aromatic, Half and Half, Granger, and Mixture 79. I really like the weirdness that is Mixture 79.
I’d like to try some others but I’m not willing to commit to a tub.

I’m not a snob but what I’ve tried so far just doesn’t taste right to me. Kind of like how a diet soda doesn’t taste right.

I love the old codger/drug store blends, I smoke them probably more than anything else.

Some Favorites:

1. Borkum Riff Bourbon (but I smoke and love pretty much the whole line)
2. Captain Black Royal/1Q (but again I smoke 'em all)
3. Carter Hall
4. Mac Baren Virginia No 1
5. Mac B Golden Extra
6. Smoker’s Pride Cherry

I guess I'll stop there. I smoke probably 4 to 6 bowls of some combination of these a day. The balance being a bowl or two of a Kendal, VA flake or occasional English/Balkan

Argh, same is true here, standard Mc Barens and B Riff /Amphoras cost about the same as those tinned tobaccoes from Peterson and Rattrays available only at tobacconists stores(no Online sales are banned though)
