Well, it’s happened. I think my journey with American tobaccos is over!

They’ve been holding my hand gently for the 6 years I’ve been enjoying the hobby - taking me step-by-step through the different varieties; often delighting my senses; occasionally turning me green, but always progressing my adventure onwards.

However, the 145% customs fee I just got landed with on my last order signals a clear line in the sand: ‘You shall not pass!’

Thank you GL Pease, my favourite blender - I owe you much and will enjoy my meagre cellar for a short while longer before having to turn to MacBaren. No wait, that’s not going to work either!

Perhaps it’s time to lay down my pipe altogether, and I feel I was only just getting started!

That's rough.

I just loaded my suitcase full of whisky on the way back from Edinburgh since it is about the equivalent of +20 GBP here on a 35-pound bottle. Too bad they only let you bring about 5 tins into the UK. I'd try to "forget" the rule, but don't want to have to appear before one of those guys in the wigs. Logistics would be challenging, but maybe there needs to be some sort of thread for some of us that travel back and forth for work for an exchange of tins. Not sure if there are laws against transfer either. It may be more complicated than the enigma device operation although I do still know a few submariners in the Royal Navy and there may be an empty torpedo tube handy. Going to stop typing now before I am put onto a watch list.

i always think about stuff like this and love the idea. There is this guy I watch on youtube that travels all over, but i think he said many countries have pretty low limits on what can be brought

Sorry to hear that. I live in Canada and have only ordered two tins from the US since the tariffs and it’s been the same experience.

I haven’t ordered any of my favourite Haunted Bookshop since last year and only have a few bowls left that I have been saving.

One thing I never expected was to start enjoying Virginias so much since I’ve been rationing the burley based blends. Straight Virginias and VaPers and VaOrientals are all I've really been smoking and I couldn’t be happier.

Over the past few years I have made my decision, if I'm in europe I wouldn't start getting into the hassle and unreasonably high prices of imported American tobaccies, yet were I permanent resident of the US then same way I wouldn't start acquiring blends not freely available in the US market
A very sensible outlook, why chase US blends if your in the UK.Smoke GH and Sam Gawith easily available
