I remember my fifth-grade teacher being called out of the classroom and a while later came back while pushing one of the school's TV sets on a tall stand, and began hooking it up. Then, she told us.

Yes your right JFK was killed today. I've often wondered about that grassy knoll and the gun men. We did an advert for War Horse that banned for being in bad taste. It featured the picture of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald as he was being escorted from prison with the caption 'That will teach you not to steal my tin of War House Ready Rubbed!'.

His name was CS Lewis. Aldous Huxley died on the same day. There was another famous man who died that day but his name slips my mind. ;)

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
C. S. Lewis anticipated the anti tobacco movement.

Kennedy I knew of, had never heard of Lewis prior to this forum, and just had to look up Huxley. R.I.P. to all.
WTH really and I thought you'd at least be aware of Huxley. Highly recommend Brave New World the moral of the story is far more applicable to the modern age then that other famous dystopian novel. Seriously he had a much clearer vision of what the future would be like and also how to really control people.

Nope. I'm more Alighieri, Shakespeare, Milton, Wells, Poe, Lovecraft, Kafka, etc.

Aldous Huxley was widely celebrated for his essays and novels, but I had the misfortune of coming across a children's book by him which was absolutely the worst children's book in history. As Dirty Harry said, "A man's got to know his limitations." It was so bloody awkward, he clearly couldn't remember being a child, or perhaps he was never particularly childlike, and the language had no music or flow. It was aggressively poorly done. Nonetheless, for his fine work, and for the accomplishments of the others, including the appropriate one of the three stooges, RIP.
