Today is the first day of fall and the start of pumpkin season… at least for me. This morning I had pumpkin spice coffee, and later I’ll be enjoying Sutliff’s Pumpkin Spice tobacco in my pine cone shaped/orange stem GiGi while drinking Samuel Adams Jack-O Pumpkin Ale. It is true that opposites attract. While I love pumpkin everything, my wife hates everything pumpkin. What’s your stance? ?

This may surprise some of you but I have never eaten pumpkin!

A neighbour once offered to make me a pumpkin pie some years ago but it never happened :(

Regards,

Jay.
Pumpkin spice is a blend of spices that is marketed as such. I have made pies, and I even cook many different pumpkin dishes, but I have never used that cheap spice blend in any of my pumpkin dishes. It is also the spices used to make cheap sugar cookies. None of these pumpkin spice things tastes like pumpkin to me.

I just use a dash of vanilla, a dash of orange peel, and cinnamon in my pumpkin pies. I like that much better than this stuff.

Pumpkin spice is usually a blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger, with allspice, cardamom and lemon peel occasionally added, which are not necessarily “cheap”. Your pumpkin pipe sounds good ?

My wife already has 2 cheese pumpkins from a friend who grew them this year from seeds we saved last year. She will probably pick up another one or two from a local stand as well. She will process them and make various cookies and pies over the next few months from them plus our dog will eat about 1/4 cup every night for the fiber. He loves it.

Not pumpkin, but we pulled all of our butternut squash from the garden recently. Also good this time of year!

To me, it's difficult for anyone to make a good pumpkin pie; they either have to be ingeniously spiced so it is both subtle but pleasing or it has to be sweetened just right. I say no to almost everything else pumpkin. It's death to a beer, and most other food products. In a tobacco blend, it is a practical joke. It doesn't hurt. But it disgusts. So I'm a no.

If one hasn’t done their baking with Long Island Cheese Pumpkins, I highly recommend finding them versus anything else out there. My stores don’t care then, but luckily there’s at least 2 local farmers who do that we get ours from. Worth finding if you do stuff with fresh pumpkin!
