johnnyreb:
Most powder-paints cure (fuse) at temperatures above 300-degrees Fahrenheit. Having said that, I do not know at what temperature tobacco burns (possibly 451-degrees Fahrenheit, the same as paper?). Regardless, I doubt that the stem (be it plastic or Vulcanite) would survive the curing process. It would undoubtedly melt.
Probably a better method of coloring the frames would be anodizing.

According to this website pipe tobacco burns in the range of 380 - 620 C (716 - 1148 F) in the bowl.

All the more reason to consider anodizing. Typically the aluminum substrate will melt before the anodized coating.

Yes, it was just that I know a powder coater who would probably do a couple of frames in black and white for me when he was running something else.

There will be some anodized ones available in a week they are Shillelagh shaped just like CJ's, only 12 are being made and doubt they will last long the seller is in the UK and not on eBay but a pipe seller, he will also have 12 all black and 12 in the white with white stem, one of the white stemmed ones will be mine so 11 will be available.

I take it this is separate from the pipe show stash? The ones Glynn got there went in mere minutes. I managed to snag a plain Shillelagh though I would also love to have a black frame/white bit version to put my meer bowl on.

darwin, no doubt in my mind that would be a smashing mating but the white stemmed ones are in the white, the black ones will have black stems and I assume the colorized ones will have black ones as well, you may wish to ask Glynn that is who will have them.

They also turned bowls and and I think stems in Ireland for a short period of time. I have some American and Irish turned bowls and some American made stems, need to check on the Irish stems.
Kathy Hunt goes through phases of new old stock Falcons on eBay. Her handle is Kathyc2c I believe. I went ahead and ordered two meerschaum bowls from MeerQueen so am looking forward to those getting here. They would be a nice birthday smoke come Sunday.

I'm not a Falcon owner. I've never quite been bitten by the bug. But it's interesting to hear their qualities

and benefits discussed. They are war horse pipes, durable and smooth smoking, by all accounts. I can

understand the charm. Affordable is an attribute too.

Good pipes and very common in England for years. We had a world champion bowls player (David Bryant) who had one in his chops whilst playing, unlit of course!
Not a bad system and the meerschaum lined are good too, buy a new bowl and it smokes like you've had a new pipe.
I only use the dry rings when I spoke it out because you can just wipe the collector out with tissue at home.

Played with wooden balls with a lead bias to one side so they can be made to 'curve'. Can be crown green or flat track. The 'jack' is bowled first (small white ball) and the idea is to end up with your ball or balls the nearest to it to score points.
Have a quick google Quincy.

I have 7 Falcons - including a Bantam, and 2 Shillelagh pipes, one NOS which I bought from Kathy Hunt. What a nice lady to do business with. I also have a new, dark green Falcon that I purchased from a dealer on the UK Ebay site.
For awhile you could pick up new Falcons in red, dark green, blue, purple, and a yellowish green color - they have since been discontinued with no intent to reissue. You can still get them occasionally in black and more readily in brown.
I have 10 extra bowls in various shapes, and also purchased two Meershaum bowls from MeerQueen.
When I travel, a Falcon and 2-3 bowls go with me along with a couple of MM cobs. I enjoy smoking my Falcons, I never had a hot smoke from one of them. I also have a Dr. Grabow Viking with a curved stem (my Falcons are straight). It's a good smoke too.
Edit:

Just spent a few minutes on the bay to see what they had to offer. Using the search "Falcon Pipes" I found that there are some Special Editions from England available. Black with a white stem, chrome with a white stem, and what they are calling "The Twister" which is a Shillelagh style.

I have a dozen briars, a couple of Meerschaums, about a half dozen cobs and Falcon. Lately, I've been smoking the cobbs and the Falcon almost exclusively.
The Falcon can hot, as some have noted, if you chug your smokes. But puff sanely and you'll get a satisfying cool, dry smoke, about as good as some of my best briars and better than some.
I've occasionally gotten a tough draw and discovered that occasionally some tobacco blends will deposit tar along the sides of the draft hole in the bottom of the bowl, restricting the draw. Running a dull pipe reamer around the circumference cleared up the problem in a few seconds.
The standard bowls are relatively small but I understand that the Istanbul, Hyperbole, or the Snifter are larger. New bowls are on my to acquire list. I'm now in PAD spiral for cobbs and Forever stems.
Hard to get folks to give up their Falcon bowls. I offered an oversized Mr. Brogg pearwood pipe and Big Ben Pippin in trade for one of the larger Falcon bowls and got nary a bite.

Could someone tell me how to get in touch with Kathy Hunt? Googled her name with Falcon Pipes but just got links to her book.

You have to watch and see if she's posting any pipes for sale. You'll know it's her - top quality offerings. Can't remember what name she lists under. In the mean time, her book (Kindle) is worth the time to read.
