The short answer is yes..They're light weight and usually don't break if you drop them. They smoke pretty good.I also like the feel of the stem.Back in days of old I smoked them at work for several years.Though in those days a new one cost about one tenth what one costs today.Believe it or not.I used to buy them at Sears.
Now that would be cool, .
I used to think of them as gimmick pipes but after purchasing one I was very surprised at how good they smoked. Easy to maintain, add a few bowls and you have a nice rotation. There are a lot of Falcon lovers on this forum as well. If you are considering buying one, definitely do it. You will not regret it.
Welcome, Big!
I have 6 Falcons, so I guess that you could say I like them. Great, reliable smoke, wonderful traveling pipe with a couple of spare bowls, and relatively inexpensive (go for an estate and clean it up before investing in a new one - if you need help, ask).
Back in 1995 I inherited one from my grandfather's collection. But because I was so partial to briar and vulcanite I just let it sit in the rack for over ten years. Then I picked up another one in a lot of old pipes I got on eBay. I cleaned them both up and on a whim decided to fire one up. I was surprised at how good a smoke it delivered when smoked slowly. So now they are both in my regular rotation. Recommended.
1. I think it's a great system, and a good smoker.
2. My straight Falcon smokes great, but I don't like the thin mouthpiece. It has an "Algiers" bowl, which is heavy and the tiny bit is difficult to clench.
3. I think the balance is much better with a bent stem.
4. I want to get a meerschaum bowl for it, and Meerschaum Store.com is supposed to be making meerschaum bowls available for Falcon pipes.
There are moisture absorbing pads available for the falcon, but you can make them using cotton pipe cleaners if you so choose.
I like mine, if that matters. Had a pipe just like a Falcon 45 yrs ago but it was something I bought at a drugstore. And after reading this tonight bought another bowl for it from England, briar with Meer insert. Still waiting for a meer bowl ordered a while back. But it serves a purpose & a good one.
