I would delete my Facebook account if I could, as do not use it . I also have no use for Twitter .
I actually dropped facebook for a couple of months, it was no big deal. The novelty of it wore off years ago, but it's pretty much the only place I get to see any new family photos, and it's literally the only way I can keep in touch with my nieces and nephews since they live there apparently.
I just did that to my account this morning, just couldn't take anymore of the political and religous Bullshit, over and over, and I did this, look what I did, etc.
Go up to the upper RH corner and pull down the Account Settings tab, then select Security, then you can de-activate your account.
Goodbye social masturbation, now I will have more valuable minutes in my life.
Ive had an account for quite a many years... but really recently have gotten so bored with it... same shit over and over... what little time I have I think I would rather spend it here with you guys. :D
Facebook is the scourge of humanity and an abomination. It has taken a generation and made them into social miscreants with not one ounce of social skills. There are so many young people who are and will be denied employment because of the stupid things they say and the pictures they post. I tell my kids all the time, you will ruin your future if you are not careful. I see their friends and I see how they are not developing the social skills in which to be successful in the world today. I told my kids if I see them becoming obsessed with it, I am pulling the plug. What ever happened to picking up a phone and having a conversation with another human being? Hell look at the founder Zuckenberg, he is the poster child for social misfit. If you young people were smart you would delete your facebooks before you ruin your future.

Facebook has integrated with companies now and there are actually jobs that focus just on facebook. That being said you do have to be careful about what you post on your page. Never publicly say anything bad about a company or have risk-ay photos. Today a lot of employers check your facebook to learn more about you for hiring purposes. There is even a business version of social media called linkden. You can find jobs and talk to people on advise for resume etc. Being from a far away state I can stay in the loop with some of my closer extended family that I wouldn't be able to without it. I also have a few friends from outside the country that I can't just pick up a phone and call them. I dislike all the misinformation about politics and religious intoleration as well but I hear that from my areas adults more than on there. When there is someone who makes those comments I usually just delete them from my friends list. I don't understand how some get obsessed with facebook though. I have been on a lot lately but it is because I have been talking privately with people from this forum lol. Good way to have a private conversation that is quick.
Dave, thank you, my kids do understand that I make rules for their benefit and not to just be a pain in the ass. Now in your situation facebook is great for what you described, and if people just used it like you did then I wouldn't have a problem with it. The majority of the people unfortunately are younger and they live their lives on that thing. As said above, bullying and harassment which leads to suicide is awful. How many deaths can be attributed to facebook? Even one is too many in my opinion.
Yeah I get pretty mad at the bullying. I was a big ole fat kid in high school and was bullied hard core. Didn't help that I was catholic and from the north. A few people really made it the worst 4 years of my life. I got in shape during college and have been very happy. I am a pacifist but every time I see it I just want to beat the crap out of them. Facebook has its downsides for sure.
Either you like it or you don't, I have a account and check it daily. But I don't think it's that bad as some of the anti-facebookers here are making it out to be.

Facebook is what it is. One day it will be replaced by something else. I know what you mean about people being socially dysfunctional now, though. Asking someone to meet in person now gets a reaction similar to asking if you can screw their sister. I also noticed that people younger than me will not pick up for a voice call, but you can text them and in 5 seconds you get a reply. Times they are a-changin'.
