Linemen and related power people don’t get enough thanks, so let me Say this THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DO
I agree completely. Here on the Oregon coast we have lots of trees and frequent winter storms with powerful winds, which means lots of downed lines. We average at least a half dozen outages every winter, but they usually get it restored pretty quickly. They have to go out in the worst weather to do their work. They are also very proactive in trimming trees throughout the year to prevent issues during storms.

I can put it this way too. Even the worst weather here I consider comfort not safety. As in better remember to pack some gloves and a hat to avoid feeling not so great.... Right now it's a safety issue. Last year the worst weather the coldest it got as long as I was dry I could have walked to work and back in jeans and a t-shirt I would have thought it was a horrible time but at no point would I have to worry about my well being. Not now.

A balmy 55 degrees here, but we have a mild storm coming through with heavy rain and 20 knot sustained winds. Fortunately not enough wind speed to knock down trees. Not ideal for playing with the dogs or smoking a pipe outside though.

Missouri and other states are expected to experience a once in a generation extreme weather event today, as a cold front rolls across the Great Plains.

Dunnegan Missouri

View attachment 188945

I grew up with storytellers relating an even more extreme event, that of November 11, 1911.

The Amish around Dunnegan and Spout Spring Hollow still do not allow radio or television, except radio reports for farm markets and weather. The worst aspect of this cold wave will be winds gusting to 40 miles an hour with sub zero temperatures, along with two to four inches of snow.

I’ll be relieved to hear my Amish renter’s cattle all survive.

Large round hay bales already are over $100.

Keep warm, and be glad you don’t have cattle to tend today.
I wouldn't say these are extreme weather conditions. Although it might be bad weather conditions for cattle. The last time I booked westgateresorts.com/hotels/missouri/branson/ the weather forecast promised us beautiful and sunny weather, but the forecasters made a big mistake and we were caught in a season of heavy rains and high winds. At one point I thought a little more and a storm warning would be announced. But the weather did not spoil our vacation. Now we plan to visit this city in sunny weather.
